Alton Towers

If you don’t know Alton Towers is a Theme Park in England. On Friday, with my School, I spent a day there and trust me the 3 hours on the coach there and back was worth it.

There’s no real structure to this post, I just wanted to share the little pictures I took, whilst telling you about some of the rides and explaining some of my DO’s & DON’TS.

alton towersSo if you don’t live in the U.K, you may be unaware that in June 2015, this ride, the Smiler,  closed down as it crashed and severely injured riders. I have complete respect for all of those riders that day, its unimaginable what they had to endure.

However, currently, the ride is open, and I wasn’t planning on going on. But once I had started going on others, I knew I had to give this one a go. It is a good ride, I went on 3 times and according to Alton Towers website it is ‘the world’s first 14 loop rollercoaster’.

alton towers 5Alton Towers has some beautiful land, that I obviously had to include in this post.

DO: Be aware of queues. So if you know of a ride your desperate to go on, get there as soon as possible. Having said that, if the queue does last a while, there will be someone telling you the amount of time to wait, or it may be on a screen. And it’s usually not as long as you predict it to be.

DON’T: Go late. Come 12 o’clock, there’s a likely chance you’re waiting to go on most rides. Sooner you’re there, the quicker you’ll go through.

alton towers 7Due to the size of the park you had to travel on ‘Skyrides‘ to different areas. This meant I got to witness some picturesque views of the gardens. We rode this numerous times in the day. On one occasion it did stop in the middle and obviously we were just like: “WHAT’S GOING ON?!” But it was all fine, they had to stop because someone had thrown up in one of the gondola’s, is that the right word for one? If not feel free to correct me.

One ride I was dreading going on was Oblivion. I mean it was the worlds first vertical drop, who wouldn’t be scared? To be fair getting on the ride wasn’t too bad because I still had that adrenaline rush from other rides. I’d go on it again, I just couldn’t in one day. It literally took my breath away, and then to get sprayed with water at the bottom, wasn’t the best feeling. According to my best friend though, it happened to her too on the first time you just go on it again and its fine. To the woman who sat next to me on the ride, I’d like to thank, she seemed to be dreading it as much as me…

alton towers 6DO: Wear comfortable clothing/shoes. If you’re trapped in a ride you don’t want to have that along with uncomfortable clothes digging into you. And comfortable shoes! You do have to do quite a bit of walking, well in Alton Towers we found this. But still walking to and from rides, waiting for rides, etc, you want your feet to not hurt as soon.

DON’T: Let the themes of the rides freak you out. This is a weird one. For example, on the Smiler, when waiting, there was a really annoying song playing. I understand its part of the ride itself and the effect of it all, but it could really freak some people out. Another one was the Nemesis, they had a sign saying it was the most intense ride. However, it turned out being one of my favourites. If I’d let the sign bother me I probably wouldn’t have got on.

alton towers 2This picture is of the ride Rita. THIS GOES SO FAST. It is just your average rollercoaster, it was still amazing. But because of the speed I did end up hitting my head, shoulder and any other body parts that suffered a day later. It does warn you to brace yourself, but how exactly do you do that?

Another favourite of mine was Thi3teen. Its the worlds first free fall rollercoaster. How crazy is that? It does make your stomach flip as it does drop twice. Although, I love it, its amazing! Especially when you go backwards, its just a totally unique ride. I do realise if you haven’t been on this ride, I am just giving away plenty of spoilers so I do apologise.

alton towers 3I never seem to be able to get a picture without someone photo bombing it…

DO: Be prepared for the aftermath. Maybe its just me but the night I got back from spending the day at a Theme Park, I still felt like I was on the rides. I tried googling how to stop the feeling but there wasn’t any results. I think its just called motion sickness??

DON’T: Eat too much. I think because you’re there you don’t feel that hungry to begin with. Obviously, don’t go round on an empty stomach. But twice in one day, rides got stopped, that I was on, because people were throwing up their lunches.

alton towers 4This is like the future of rollercoasters. Galactica is a refurbishment from an older ride, Air, but what an amazing upgrade. On this ride, you’re already in a ‘flying-like’ position which is cool. To top it off you’re wearing Virtual Reality Goggles, so you think you’re in space. There’s no words for my astonishment for this ride, its just astounding. Not going to lie, the quality of the video could be better, and I think that’s what gave me a headache. But that wouldn’t make me not want to recommend it as much as I am.

The last ride I want to rave about is Nemesis. It pleasantly surprised me, so much so I would say its a definite favourite of mine. It’s difficult to describe what I enjoyed so much, but just the experience of it all was breath taking.

Alton towers 8DO: Ride your favourite more than once. Obviously, no one is forcing you too. However, in one day you can go on numerous rides and I like to remember which ones were my favourite. So by going on them more than once, you can decipher whether or not its for you.

DON’T: Spend all your money. Food and drink are going to be a lot more expensive there, that’s not what I’m talking about though. Its them stands, where there’s the massive teddies, that all you have to do is spend £5 to throw a ball into a basket. They look deceivingly easy for you to try them! Don’t waste all your money on trying to win, when you might as well spend it on food (that’s the most important thing, right?), or if anything a picture of yourself and a friend on a ride.

Hope you enjoyed this long post. I wasn’t intending in typing up a post based on Alton Towers, but I decided I really wanted to document it. Anyways, comment if you’ve ever visited Alton Towers, if not do you enjoy Rollercoasters and where is your favourite Theme Park?

Love, Sophie

Beauty Blogger Tag

I was so grateful when I got nominated for this by the lovely Hattiesmithers (if you’re not already following her, then please do I love her blog!). Anyways, I got nominated about a week ago, so for me this is going up quite late, but when I went back to school this week everything other than school became a blur. I’m very excited to do this tag and I should be back to doing normal posts next week.

The Rules are:

Tag the blogger who nominated you.

Answer the questions set for you.

Come up with 10 questions of your own.

Nominate other bloggers and don’t forget to tell them!

  1. What is your favourite Makeup brand and why?

This probably changes every week but at the minute I’m loving L’Oreal. Not just makeup, hair care, everything. I think its my favourite because its really affordable and all their products are of a high quality.

blogger award 3

2. What was the inspiration for your blog?

I don’t think I had one particular inspiration for my blog. It was mainly just me wanting to start something people could read and I would enjoy doing. To be fair I didn’t realise I’d be so consistent, never mind keep this up for over a year.

3. What is your holy grail make up product?

This question is so difficult. I think I’m going to say any of my Dior or Chanel lip products, because I was just so happy for like a month after receiving them. Also, I have them on my dressing table just to see them everyday-don’t judge

blogger award 2

4. Beauty Blender or Makeup brush?

Is it bad I haven’t tried a beauty blender yet? I actually do want to but on my ‘Makeup Shopping List’ there’s always something above it. So I guess I’d have to say Makeup Brush, I absolutely love the Real Techniques ones.

blogger award 5

5. What is your favourite affordable makeup brand?

I’d say L’Oreal is pretty affordable. But picking a different favourite I’d say Bourjois, I love their products so much. Pretty much had a quiet addiction (if that’s a thing?!) to their products since Christmas now.

blogger award 4

6. What is your favourite hobby/pastime?

Apart from School work, which I’m not classing as a hobby, all I do is blog, take photos and shop. Literally, I’m blogging now, I’ve just ordered some stuff from H&M and after this I’m going to take pictures for this post.

7. If you could only put on one makeup product for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Concealer. However, I’m beginning to actually feel comfortable going out with no makeup on. I’d still pick concealer because it just makes your complexion in general look great. I’d probably pick the No7 Match Made Concealer.

8. Who is your favourite youtuber/blogger?

I can’t pick a favourite I’m loving so many, especially youtubers. Zoella, Hannah Renée, Fabulous Hannah.

9. What is your best beauty advice?

Start minimal. You can always build it up with foundation coverage, eye shadow, etc. But its just going to look worse if you try and apply too much at once. Also, YouTube is amazing if you’re just starting off with makeup.

10. What is your favourite brand for lipsticks?

Mac. For sure, I just need more money to spend on them. But a cheaper alternative I love the Rimmel Lipsticks, they’re so good especially for the price of them.

blogger award

11. Who/what makes you happiest?

My Mum or Alfie. But an actual thing would probably be my camera or laptop so I can blog. Basically, my Puppy and Blogging makes me happiest.

10 Questions

  1. Where do you prefer to shop for makeup (i.e Boots or Superdrug)?
  2. Would you rather live without any lip product or concealer?
  3. Is there a price you wouldn’t pay for makeup?
  4. What’s your favourite affordable makeup brand?
  5. Is there something that’s been on your ‘Makeup Wish list’ for a while now? If so what is it?
  6. What is one thing you do that is essential in your winding down/pamper routine?
  7. How long have you been blogging for and what made you start?
  8. Do you read magazines? If you do which one is your favourite?
  9. What’s one thing from your wardrobe that you pretty much wear on a daily basis?
  10. Do you like the place you live? Or would you be happy to move to a different country?

I nominate:

Firstly, anyone who would like to because as I’ve already posted a tag last week, I don’t want to seem too annoying.

First Impressions from Boots Haul

I really wanted to do a First Impressions on the makeup I mentioned in my recent ‘Boots Haul’. From the comments on that post, other people seemed to want some form of a review on things too. I’ve also included a couple more makeup products I haven’t tried before so I could do a full face of makeup.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Primer

first impressionsThis really surprised me. I haven’t heard a bad review on it but I didn’t think it would suit my dry skin. It is matte, obviously, but it doesn’t dry out my skin. Especially because its just the primer and you’re putting foundation over the top anyway. It really helps to keep your makeup set all day, like literally it won’t move your makeup one bit. I made sure to moisturise my skin beforehand so maybe that helped the primer settle as well as it did. I fully recommend this product and think its at a pretty good price too.

L’Oreal Paris True Match Foundation

first impressions 2I really like this foundation I’m just not use to the formula yet. I usually use the Bourjois Healthy Mix Gel Serum foundation. So to go from that to this felt a bit weird. It does leave a matte finish and I’d say it gives a higher coverage than the Bourjois one. I’m probably going to love both but for bad skin days, or if I just want extra coverage I’ll definitely turn to this. There is quite a variety of shades too, which is always good, I managed to match this pretty spot on which is always a blessing when shopping for foundation. Again, I’d recommend it to anyone.

Revlon Colorstay Concealer

first impressions 3

This didn’t exceed my expectations but because of not hearing any reviews for this product I didn’t think much of it to begin with. I do like this product and I think I’ll have to use it a bit more to form a real opinion. But when I tried applying, very little seemed to come out. It’s not necessarily a bad thing I just didn’t want to keep adding more and more. So I mainly stuck to whatever came out on the applicator and it gave good coverage. I’d be less likely to recommend this as I’ve found better concealers that work well with my skin. Nor will I be rushing to repurchase, but I’m not unhappy with this product.

Benefit Porefessional: Agent Zero Shine

first impressions 4I really like this powder. It sets my makeup really well. I don’t really have much to say about this, it does its job. I’d recommend it if you have a higher budget for powder. Even I’ve only got the mini version from a set.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Sculpt Contouring Palette

first impressions 6This is amazing for anyone like me that’s a starter in contouring, or for someone with more experience. I love that its more of a cream consistency because its much easier to blend out. I really liked the highlighter, it works well with the other shade, and it really helps to define the contour. Would 100% recommend this.

Makeup Revolution Palette

first impressions 7I was so happy to pick this up after reading it on another blog. I was in desperate need of some more nude shades. I won’t go into detail on how I used each shade as I’ve already done a Spring Makeup Look. However, I was impressed especially at it being such a low price! I wouldn’t say they’re as pigmented as other palettes I have but they’re certainly buildable. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative then definitely go and pick this up.

Maybelline Push Up Drama Mascara

first impressions 5This is the type of mascara I’ll have to get used to wearing again. I used to wear a mascara that really separates the lashes. But this one doesn’t do this as much, it’s definitely more clumpy if that’s the right word. I think it will take me a couple of uses to get the look I want. It holds a curl which is good and I would recommend it if you’re looking for a more thickening mascara.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick By Kate Nude Collection

first impressions 8I really like this Lipstick. Unfortunately, it is my Mums so it will be harder to use regularly. If you read my High End Vs. High Street, then you’ll know a good dupe for this is the Clinique Pop lipstick in the shade Beige Pop. The only difference between them two lipsticks is the price and the Clinique one is much creamier as it is a lip primer as well. I’d definitely recommend any of the Kate Moss lipsticks from Rimmel I think you can’t go wrong with them.

Obviously had to go somewhere with this full face of Makeup, so I took Alfie to the beach…

image2image3image4image5All was going great until it turned windy…

image1My hats probably still a bit damp and sandy from this.

Hope you enjoyed this in depth post. I love these types of posts its just getting the time to do them. Unfortunately, I’m back at school tomorrow and my exams are looming. So if the quality of these posts decrease I do apologise, the Summer Posts will make up for it though.

Liebster Award

Can I just say, THANK YOU SO MUCH for 200 followers. That might not be a lot to some people but to me it means the world. To think it took me a year of blogging to reach 100 followers, to then gain another hundred in a couple of months, is insane. Anyways, that’s why there’s an extra post this weekend.

So I got tagged to do the Liebster Award, which I am very grateful for, by the lovely blogger Rose- Tinted Rambles. If you’re not following her, then why not? Like seriously do so. Here’s Rose-Tinted Rambles original post.

Basically, I tell you 11 facts about me. Then answer questions Rose-Tinted Rambles set for me. Afterwards I tag 11 other bloggers and ask my own 11 questions for those bloggers.

My 11 Facts About Me

  1. I’ve had a puppy now for nearly 2 months and he’s already one of my best friends.
  2. I probably spend most of my time blogging, or thinking about what I could blog about, when in reality I should be revising….guess what I’m supposed to be doing right now.
  3. I pretty much just drink water apart from the occasional tea or hot chocolate. And even then I don’t drink enough water.
  4. I was born in Manchester, U.K. But now live on the opposite side of the country.
  5. I’m in Year 11 and I’m literally counting down the days to my long Summer off before sixth form/college.
  6. I’m super clumsy, so much so that I’ve dropped my phone so much I can’t go far in my house without losing Wi-Fi because I’ve damaged some sort of signal on the corners.
  7. I’ve been super fortunate to travel to some picturesque countries and I can only hope to carry on travelling.
  8. It really gets me down when I try hard at things and I don’t do as well as I’d wanted.
  9. When I was younger, I used to do ballet, karate, swimming and this must have scarred me in some way as I haven’t participated in physical activity for a good 5 years now, (I just attend P.E). This is excluding walking and yoga, I’m not that lazy…
  10. I know all the lines in Friends, that I could play the part myself.
  11. My only goal in life is to just be happy.

Questions from Rose-Tinted Rambles

Where is your happy place?

I don’t really have a specific place its just anywhere outside of school. Can you sense my hatred for that place yet?

Would you rather go out wearing no foundation or without your eyebrows filled in?

I don’t fill in my eyebrows so this is an easy one for me.

What is your favourite book?

Usually I’d say ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ by John Green. However, I’ve loved ‘All the Bright Places’, by Jennifer Niven, so can I have 2 Favourites?

What do you love most about blogging?

I love that you have your own little platform to write whatever interests you most. And then on top of that to be able to share your opinions with others and discuss it.

What’s your favourite childhood possession?

I wish I had saved more from my childhood but unfortunately I haven’t really. However, I have kept one thing its still on my bed to this day. Basically, I have this old stuffed dog called Max, he just stays tucked away in my room.

If you could eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I really want to say chocolate. But I want to think logically about this, so I’d have to say potatoes. Then I can have roast potatoes, wedges, chips, fries, potato waffles, jacket potato.

Lions or Tigers?

I don’t know why but tigers.

Who is your favourite Disney Princess?

If you could only wear one makeup brand for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?

If money was no object, I’d say Dior. But if it was then I’d say No7.

What is your favourite Season?

Summer. By far. You have better outfit choices, everyone seems to be happier and you get a tan.

Would you rather run a marathon or do heavy weight lifting for 4 hours?

Neither sounds very appealing to me. But if I had to do one I think I’d choose run a marathon. Let’s be honest, I have never seen anyone full scale running that thing, they’re always ‘pacing themselves’ or whatever. So I think I could pretty much get away with ‘slow paced’ walking a marathon.

About Me

Boots Haul

Last Saturday, I went to Boots and I was on a mission to restock my makeup. Does anyone else seem to come to the end of everything at round the same time? Anyways, it’s not everything I would have liked but I wanted to share what I had so far.

L’Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Shampoo & Conditioner

mini 2I really want to take more care of my hair because it is very long, so if there’s so much of it, its only fair right? But we all know that’s not happening so I might as well just switch up my Shampoo and Conditioner and see what this does.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Sculpt

mini 3I heard so many things about the release of this product and others from this new range. But I don’t think I actually heard if it was any good. So I wanted to try it for myself. That and this is my first contour palette.

L’Oreal Paris True Match Foundation

mini 4I haven’t tried a L’Oreal foundation before so I’m quite excited to try this. Again, I heard different things, about how this is different packaging? I could be wrong but I’m definitely desperate to try this out.

Revlon Colorstay Concealer

mini 5I had no idea this was even a thing. I’m glad I’ve found it though, I wanted to try out a different applicator. I also thought I’d try more of a liquid concealer rather than the creamy consistency I go for to see the difference in appearance it gives.

Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara

mini 6I was in two minds. Do I get the Lash Sensational that had been raved about or do I try out the new one hoping their run of good mascaras carries on? I went for the latter. I really hope this mascara is as good as I hope. I mean I’m moving away from the Roller lash for this!

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Mattifying Primer

mini 7This was actually seriously needed. My Bourjois Happy Light Serum Primer is seriously running out, so If I didn’t get anything else I would at least have to get this.

I’ve just realised this is mainly L’Oreal products, I must have gravitated towards them because of all their new products that are out and just in general their new packaging, oops…

Hope you enjoyed this mini post for half way through the week. Comment if you’ve tried any of these or if you’re just as curious to try some of these products.

Love, Sophie

March Favourites 2016

I wasn’t going to do a favourites every month but I realised I have so many (albeit random) favourites at the minute I just had to share them!

All the Bright Places– Jennifer Niven

march 2016 2I quickly picked this up without thinking as I remember reading posts about how good it was and I think Zoella might have mentioned it in a favourites video a while back. Anyways it was on offer so I had to get it, but I haven’t been able to put it down. I just love the storyline, the characters, everything. If you have read this book then comment down below if you enjoyed it as much as I have.

march 2016I don’t know what it is but this month I have bought so many DVD’s and watched loads more. So these are basically some of my all time favourite movies. I’ve watched them all before so I was over the moon to find them. Most of them were £3 from Tesco so that was even better. I cried my eyes out at Marley & Me and absolutely loved the Intern, much more than I thought. Now I have the perfect DVD collection.

I bought some Full Velour Slippers in cream from Matalan. And yes, they’re probably not designed for younger people like me but they’re actually the comfiest things ever. I’ve had them for about a week and they’re already dirty. It’s like forever walking on a cloud and it’s so easy to just slip them on and take Alfie out into the garden.

Clinique Pop Lip Colour Primer

march 2016 6

I love this colour, I’m pretty sure that this was the first lip product that reminded me its okay to wear lighter shades than just the reds. It’s really creamy and I’ve enjoyed it much more now it’s Spring. If you want to see it on, I recently posted a Spring Makeup Look.

Mike Posner- I took a pill in Ibiza

I love both the original and the remix of this song. Both have been a definite favourite of mine throughout March.

Ted Baker Mascara- Brilliance of Beauty

march 2016 5

When I first started using this mascara I didn’t think I’d really enjoy it as it doesn’t give the same amount of volume as I usually like. However, I’ve been trying out lighter, more pink shade make up looks. So this mascara has been perfect. I really like that it separates my lashes and holds any curl.

This is definitely one of the weirder favourites I’ve had this month. Pasta. I’ve just been loving it. From tagliatelle, to pasta bake, I’m having it all and it’s not phasing me in the slightest.

Tricks of the Shade– Soap & Glory

march 2016 4I have started to love this palette. It’s got the best shades for Spring. And for now I’m loving it until I manage to purchase the Naked 3.

I bought the best pyjamas from Peacocks. I don’t usually shop there but I just wanted some oversized, comfy, relatively cheap pyjamas. I’m absolutely so in love with them that I don’t feel right in any other pyjamas. I’m currently typing this in them right now, literally have no shame…

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

march 2016 3I love this I’m so glad I have the full size as I use it every morning. I’ve loved using this, this month, it just means I can be lazy on a morning without putting any real effort into my morning skincare.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post, I love favourites. If you’ve posted a favourites link yours in a comment.

Love, Sophie
