October Favourites 2018

I’ve just about got my head around these darker evenings but that doesn’t mean I have my head around the fact its NOVEMBER. This year has just been a whirlwind and I think the majority of people would have to agree. Anyways, October was no exception, hence why I have fewer favourites, it was a busy month…

3

Obviously walking your dog is just one of those everyday tasks that has to be done. But throughout October, I really appreciated the fresh air. Usually by this time of year the weather has turned much colder and the chances of walking your dog in the rain has tripled. However, this year that’s not really been the case (this last week has made up for the rain though). I’ve just loved getting out for an hour, almost enjoyed it as much as Alfie has and we’ve met the loveliest old lady who lives the opposite side of the village. Halfway through our walk, we end up crossing paths with her and her dog and we just have a little chat.

Radio 1

I am spending a lot more time in the car recently. It can’t be helped, with traffic on the roads it usually takes me 45 minutes to get to uni. However, one thing that passes the time apart from the obvious full concentration on the roads has been BBC Radio 1. I love that you don’t have to listen to adverts, the music they play is usually quite good (I am there for the 9 am 10 minute takeover) and I find when the presenters do talk, its fairly interesting.

2

How could I miss out on mentioning Halloween? I was kind of gutted I didn’t post on the 31st, like I usually do (2017, 2016, 2015). But I’d had such a long day at uni and the amount of trick or treaters we had, I actually didn’t get to sit down for very long. It was so surprising, in the old house we had a few people come to the door but it was never too many. This year, now living in a small village, I thought we’d be lucky to get one, clearly there’s a lot of kids in the village. My mum had bought 6 bags of sweets and at the end of the night we had maybe a handful left. Anyways, it ended up being surprisingly fun.

Is it too early to start Christmas shopping? I feel that once Halloween and bonfire night is out the way then its totally acceptable. Although this year I definitely had a few Christmas presents before Halloween and I’m okay about it. Christmas is one of the best times of the year and I love being able to get presents for my parents. I suppose I’m making life easier for myself by the time December rolls around and I’ll have just about finished Christmas shopping. We love an organised gal.

1

I’m about to totally contradict myself now. In September, I posted ‘Why I didn’t like my First day at University‘ , which now seems a bit like clickbait. However, a lot has gone on since then; meetings have taken place, the course has been adjusted and strong friendships have been formed. I’m not saying I’m suddenly 100% in love with the course because that’s not the case. But the friends I’ve made are making it worthwhile and the course isn’t all bad. This was a picture of me with my finished shirt, not the best but it had just been an introduction to screen printing. So I guess you could say friends at uni are my last October fave.

September Favourites 2018

We’re 6 days into October and I still can’t get my head around it. Summer is well and truly over, whilst Autumn is in full swing. As I write this; its raining; the air is colder and the fog is coming in. Could it BE anymore autumnal?! Obviously typed that out in Chandlers voice… Anyways, if that friends reference went straight over your head, here’s what I loved during September.

1

Starting with a social media sensation; Mrs Hinch. If you haven’t heard of her then you probably don’t have instagram. @mrshinchhome_x_ has got to be the fastest growing account I’ve ever witnessed and I can see why as she seems lovely. Her cleaning stories are genuinely so addictive to watch, not only funny but satisfying too. I liked cleaning to begin with but after following Mrs Hinch, I’m definitely more obsessed with it, who wouldn’t be when you get so many tips and tricks?! I am tempted to buy a ‘minkeh‘ when they come back in stock but I’m thinking that’s maybe a step too far with the obsession.

Following quite nicely on from the cleaning favourite is Zoflora, which enables the majority of cleaning. I probably started using Zoflora a little time before finding Mrs Hinch but had also heard about it from Lydia Millen. I flippin’ LOVE this stuff. It just makes everything smell so much better for absolutely ages. I couldn’t imagine using anything else to mop the floors with now. Favourite scent is ‘Linen Fresh’ but currently out of that so I have ‘Bouquet’ which smells good too.

4

Its a usual occurrence on this blog to have a slightly odd monthly favourite. This time its Sudocrem. Since moving to a new area, my skin really broke out. Whether this was down to the stress of moving or even the change in water, I’m not sure. However, I am sure I was trying everything to calm my skin down. Then one night, in a last attempt, I applied Sudocrem before sleeping. Honestly, anyone would think I had used some expensive skincare product because my skin was 10x better in the morning. Hence Sudocrem had to be featured in a favourites because its really worked as a short term solution to my breakout.

During September, the good, cosy shows were starting to appear on T.V. and obviously I was there for it. In particular, Vanity Fair started and when it did, I just watched to see what it was like (it had been advertised a lot). Looking on Twitter, there was definitely mixed reviews but personally, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven’t read the book but if I had that could have changed my opinion on the adaptation. As its progressed, I’m surprised I like it because usually I like to have the main character as someone I warm to and want to do well. However, Becky Sharpe (the main character in Vanity Fair) is unbelievably manipulative. Having said all that, that’s probably why its so addictive to watch, because its different to other period dramas. Anyways, if you want to watch/catch up I think you can on the ITV hub. Cannot believe there’s only one episode left.

2

September was the month that life became busier and I needed to integrate some organisation into my life. How? Lists of course. I strayed from using the ‘Reminders’ app on my phone and felt the need to actually write the jobs down. This is where Sticky Notes came in handy and on days when I wasn’t at University, I would use them to write down everything I needed to get done. Even though I’m starting to get used to this new timetable of events, I still feel the need to use sticky notes as reminders. I also think its much more satisfying being able to cross things off your list using a pen than just tapping it off on your phone.

My last favourite of September is ‘The Circle’, a new reality T.V. show where contestants are playing for popularity, using a uniquely designed social media platform ‘The Circle‘.  Players don’t actually meet each other, they’re all in separate apartments so you could pretend to be someone you’re not because you think with that profile you would be more popular. I started watching it because I’d never heard of anything like it but thought it was a genius idea. Both my Mum and I have been watching every episode and we agree its so bad its good and in turn its just very addictive to watch. If you have been watching it, my opinion on the contestants are; Dan to win (he is going to be heartbroken when he finds out about Kate) and (unpopular opinion) whilst Freddie isn’t a favourite, I do find some of the things he says funny and the show wouldn’t have been as entertaining if he wasn’t in it.

What did you love throughout September?

August Favourites 2018

When do I ever miss a monthly favourites? It would be a rare occurrence. There’s something about being able to almost do a round up of the month of all the things you’ve been loving that’s just really fun to write. Rambling aside, here’s what I’ve loved during August.

Obviously, my first favourite has to be the new house. If you missed my last post, I had a catch up and explained I moved (the post is here). I love this house, I am in a constant state of gratitude and it kind of feels like a holiday home, rather than a long term situation. I can’t wait to show you why I love the house when I hopefully post some room tours. (not showing off, just really happy).

1

Following on from the house, I ended up ordering a few items. And by a few I mean, I was seeing the same delivery guy most days for a couple of weeks. It was starting to get a little awkward but he was nice enough. Anyways, I ordered the majority of items from Wayfair. I had never ordered from them before but when my bank account recovers I will definitely order again. All the products I got are the best quality, the app is so good, I thought it was cool you could have ‘projects’ and use your phone camera to view potential purchases in your room. They also had really great customer service when one of my orders came without a part. -not an ad, just a really great company. Desk and chair from Wayfair but both currently out of stock.

2

As always, I usually have a weird/not-your-average favourite. This month its pre-university work, towards the end of July I got an information pack from the university giving me a Summer project. It was in two parts, one was a Summer diary and the other a self-portrait, the latter I’ll definitely be starting tomorrow of course. For the majority, it hasn’t been the worst thing, hence its ended up in a favourites and its made me feel less lazy having something to do.

4

For the first couple of weeks in the new house, I didn’t have Wi-Fi or sky tv. This just made me fall even more in love with my record player. It has probably featured in a favourites post before, but why not give credit when credits due? I am particularly loving ‘Sorry’ by Halsey on her ‘hopeless fountain kingdom’ album.

On the topic of music, my favourite song of the month has to be ‘Eastside – Benny Blanco with Halsey and Khalid’. Whenever I hear it I can’t help but sing along as loud as I can, thankfully usually in my car when that happens.

5

With some University work to do, I wanted to do a bit extra and start looking at different designers. Where best to look than Vogue? Its usually a magazine I love to read but recently I have been a little obsessed with it. Not only has it helped with the work I wanted to do, but I’ve enjoyed thoroughly reading each page.

What did you love during August?

Lots of Love,

Sophie

July Favourites 2018

Its safe to say, July has been hottest month EVER. However, did anyone else have such a bad storm last night?! Where I live it just seemed to be consistent lightning. Anyways, here’s what I’ve been loving this month…

7At the start of the month I went to my College exhibition. It was a chance to see my work on display and show my Mum what I had been up to for the past two years. In the above picture, my photography work is the three images that are titled ‘FLAWED’. I really enjoyed that project and I was so proud of the outcome. It was based on the pressures society’s standards can have on anyone, presented in a magazine format.

2365These other pictures are of my costumes from Design. The first being a jacket inspired by the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and the second costume being influenced by pollution.

I don’t know whether I can categorise my next favourite as something I really love. However, recently I started watching ‘The Handmaids Tale’ and even though I’m only 4 episodes in, I’m gripped. On the other hand, its scaring me, a lot, but I still feel like I need to carry on to see what happens.

4This month, my Mum and I bought these boxing gloves from Amazon. We both wanted to try some form of fitness at home and as my Mum used to do kick boxing, we thought getting some gloves would be a good place to start. So far, we’ve loved it, were using them every other day and I’m so impressed with the quality.

Curved Focus Pads and Punch bag boxing gloves set

Music favourite this month has to be Years and Years. I have been loving ‘All for you’ and ‘Karma’, they’re just such catchy songs and I’ve had them on repeat.

1Finally, my last favourite is the Lee Stafford Everyday Blonde Shampoo. I always find it difficult to notice that much of a difference in my hair after I’ve washed it (apart from the fact that its clean). However, with this shampoo, my hair just seems to look so much brighter and healthier, possibly only noticeable to me but still I have loved using it. I also really like the scent, I used to have a perfume that was just like it.

June Favourites 2018

For once it seems like it was a lifetime ago since I last wrote a favourites post. So much happened in June that it now just feels like a distant memory. Anyways, as hectic as it was, I still have a few things I’ve been loving.

I still haven’t got my head around leaving college. I keep thinking I’m just on a break and any minute now I’m going to remember there’s revision that needs to get done. Obviously that’s not the case, so it had to be a monthly favourite.

4

Onto a bit of a weird favourite. Muller Corner Yogurts. I’ve never been much of a yogurt person but since Dublin, I’ve loved them. I love all the different versions but what pushed me to include it in this post is that I recently tried the Strawberry Shortcake one for the first time. It tastes incredible. I’m not sure how long I can talk about how great these yogurts taste, but I think I’ve already crossed the line.

Whilst I started this post explaining I’ve had a hectic month, I may be contradicting myself now with all the tv I’ve managed to watch. Love Island, I’m sure the majority of the nation are watching. Whilst it didn’t start as the most entertaining series, its definitely become more interesting with Megan/Casa Amor/Josh.

2

After finishing college, reading was definitely high on my to do list. I just never had as much time as I would have liked, to read during exams. However, in about a week I’ve read 4 books so I couldn’t not have it as a favourite. The first two books I read are up as reviews on my blog already and the two pictured will probably be posted in about a week.

1My last favourite of June is my phone. This month I was super lucky that when my contract ended I could upgrade to the iPhone X. I know that my Dad follows my blog (because I was the one that signed him up) so I’m very grateful to him for paying the contract. Also the EE staff who helped us were so lovely and talkative. Customer service was really good and they even managed to get us a discount code. Would recommend them if you’re looking for a different phone plan.

What have been some of your favourites in June?

May Favourites 2018

Its been a while since I missed one of my weekly blog posts. But in the midst of exam season, it just couldn’t be helped. Anyways, I realised that it was about time for a monthly favourites. However, because of exams (again) there’s not as many things I’ve been loving this month. Ahh I love* when my life revolves around exams…(*hate)

1It was actually a February Favourites post back in 2016, when this product was first mentioned on my blog. I fell in love with it then and I’m in love with it now. My skin always feels thoroughly cleansed after using this Clarins gel. The only reason this ever fell out of my skincare routine was because I was in the mood for a mix up and wanted to try cheaper alternatives. But as you can see, it always makes its way back.

Youtube- Grace Fit UK

This month, I watched a lot of Graces’ videos. I don’t know how I found her channel but so glad I did, I love her uni vlogs and I really don’t know how she seems to balance everything. She’s also the greatest motivation for fitness, something I really need to get a routine with.

2In the past couple of months, I have been loving moisturising my face with Sukin. It is such a natural product and smells so good. At first, I was a bit apprehensive because it has a slightly oily consistency but once applied it absorbed well into the skin.

No Makeup

I can’t remember the last time I put makeup on (because of exams, once again) but it feels good to have let my skin have a break from foundation, concealer and all the rest of it. It also saves a lot of time in the mornings.

Music

Music favourites of the month are: ‘Back to you’ by Selena Gomez and ‘Quarter Past Midnight’ by Bastille.

April Favourites 2018

I am LIVING for this nice weather in the U.K, its literally been a day of having the sun out and I’m already in the BEST mood.

Anyways, onto what I’ve been loving during April…

IMG_0479I have mentioned my bed in too many favourites post. However, we can excuse this as I’m actually talking about my bedding instead. Once Spring rolled round, I realised it was time to change to some lighter bedding. Instead of putting on one I already had, I went out and bought this one instead. I think its simple but with really cute detailing.

IMG_0489  During my trip to Dublin, I craved fruit, I don’t know whether it was because I was so tired I just wanted something I knew would give me some energy or just to help me feel less groggy. Either way, this was what I bought and ended up LOVING. Whenever I can, I’ve been making sure to add an Innocent Smoothie to the basket and when I’ve finished this blog post, I’m going to reward myself with a smoothie. This is an ok habit right?

IMG_0499Not my usual type of favourite, although one definitely worth mentioning. My car was starting to lose the ‘new car’ smell and I wanted a car freshener. But I didn’t want one that dangled down from the car mirror so I was very happy to find this that just clips onto your air vent. I have this one ‘blossom & breeze’ and one currently on my car is ‘cotton fresh‘. Honestly, my car smells amazing, I love how small it is, yet its so effective. If you’re in the market for a car freshener, I just can’t recommend this enough.

Side note: I was looking at how much they are online and I got mine for half the price at B&M.

I didn’t think Design and Photography (2/3 courses I do at A level) would ever properly end up in a favourites post, however, here we are. So my exams for these subjects are all next week, then I’ve completely finished both of them. Which is weird when they have taken up so much of my time for the past couple of years. Overall, I have enjoyed both, the freedom to be creative and create my own projects. As well as having a really chilled teacher, it will feel weird when it sinks in I don’t have it anymore. Obviously just have to get through the 15 hour exams (30 hours in total, PLEASE LET TIME PASS QUICKLY).

IMG_0495

I have fallen back in love with my Dior ADDICT Perfume. I’m not even going to try and describe the scent, I just know that it smells good and it lasts all day. That is what counts.

Music- Recently, I have been obsessed with Anne-Marie. I love her new album ‘Speak Your Mind’. I just love her music, at the minute especially ‘2002’ and ‘Perfect’.

March Favourites 2018

As I’m writing this blog post, its raining. Its actually done so all day. Which makes me very happy for April, where I can only hope we all get to see the sun a bit more. Anyways, I feel like March was such a busy month, I couldn’t really pinpoint many favourites. But here’s what I have been loving.

3My first favourite being these polaroids. Getting some of my pictures printed has always been on my to do list but not something I ever seem to get round to doing. However, with my 18th and an Ireland trip, I knew I had to finally get some printed. I absolutely love these prints and they were really well priced. (If you’re wondering, I ordered from Photobox, not sponsored.) Now I’ve just got to figure out where I want them, in a scrapbook or on my wall.

In March, I spent a weekend in Dublin. It was definitely a highlight of the month and couldn’t not include it in this post. I’d absolutely love to go back one day and if you didn’t see my post about it then you can here.

2

I don’t usually have many makeup favourites but as we’re leaving Winter, I’m opting for lighter makeup. I have been mixing Rimmel Foundation with Seventeen 3 Way Highlighter and its a game changer. I put that combination on and my base makeup is done and it gives my skin a healthy glow. Another thing I have fallen back in love with is my beauty blender. I’ve started using this to apply my foundation/highlighter and it just helps it to apply evenly. I also feel that it lightens the makeup, my face doesn’t feel as cakey and heavy, does that make sense?

My Music favourites have been:

  • Nothing to Regret- Robinson
  • Normal- Sasha Sloan
  • Turn Back Time- Daniel Schulz
  • Just a Kid- Two Friends

February Favourites 2018

January seemed to last months, whilst February felt like seconds. I don’t know how that works but I do know I have some favourites I want to share from the past few weeks.

1Early February, it was my birthday and I was super grateful to receive this bracelet as one of my presents. I have been loving wearing this and I haven’t really been leaving the house without it.

Celebs Go Dating

I don’t know where to begin with what I like about this show. I think Rob Beckett is the perfect voice over guy for the series. I think the whole concept just works and I appreciate how each ‘celebrity’ (I guess its debateable where you’d place them on the fame scale) brings something different to the table. Basically if you watched it, I’d love to know who your favourite people were.

We had quite a lot of snow recently and my College actually closed for 3 days (which is apparently the first time in years). I’ve been grateful for the time off but also stressing because I left all my photography and psychology work at college, (thinking I’d be there the next day) therefore haven’t done much work. But the snow is still a favourite of mine because of Alfie’s happiness in it. I hope everyone managed to stay safe throughout the bad weather.

2

Another birthday present was a turntable. I thought it was such a cool, retro idea. The two vinyl’s I have so far are Taylor Swift ‘Speak Now’ and Halsey ‘Hopeless Fountain Kingdom’. If anyone has any suggestions of others, it would be appreciated.

Speaking of music, I have been loving ‘Your Time Capsule’ on Spotify. It has all the best songs. I was just about to pick some of my favourites but I don’t think I can. I’ll just pick some random ones; Sk8er Boi, Avril Lavigne; So sick, Ne-Yo; Dilemma, Nelly and Chasing Cars, Snow Patrol. The last one being the first song I had downloaded on my first ever phone, probably a nokia, it brings back ALL THE MEMORIES.

5

This month, I signed up to be an organ donor. I feel like its worth mentioning because it may remind you to do the same. I was surprised at how quick the process was, it literally took less than 5 minutes for both myself and my parents to sign up. I also naively didn’t realise you could choose what you were comfortable donating. This isn’t an ad I just wanted to include it, I think its an important topic. Especially if you are like me and it was one of those things I wanted to do but never got round to it (until now of course).

If you do want to sign up then you can here.

January Favourites 2018

Why did January feel like it lasted much longer than it needed to? I am definitely excited its now February (its my BIRTHDAY MONTH!!) and what better way to start a new month by sharing my favourites from the previous one…

3

Something I started at the beginning of the year was a Bullet Journal and whilst I’m still working out what works for me, its definitely been a favourite of mine. In the picture above you can see I have two check lists; one for yoga and one for water. Its actually motivated me to keep drinking 2 litres a day and make yoga part of my daily routine.

Speaking of Yoga, I have been LOVING it. I can feel myself getting stronger and if I’m not having the best of days it really helps me into a better mood. I can’t recommend Yoga with Adriene enough.

2I have to admit, I haven’t made a huge effort with makeup in the past month. However, when I use this Seventeen 3 way Highlighter, it makes me look a little bit more alive. It has a lovely subtle glow. You can also use it as a primer or add to your foundation, so when I’m back on the makeup game, It’ll be cool to see the results.

I’ve watched the past couple of episodes of Call the Midwife and I am OBSESSED. I don’t know why I didn’t think of watching it before? Anyways, I don’t know if you could call it a favourite but I can tell I am about to get addicted. Now to find where can I watch the first 6 series…

5

If you read my What I got For Christmas Post, you’ll know I received these beautiful earrings. I basically want to wear them everyday and the only thing that stops me is that I don’t want my second piercing to close up, so some days I have to go back to two earrings in each ear.

1And finally, even with the little makeup I’ve been wearing, I still want it to stay in place. I have been loving the Barry M Makeup Setting Spray. I pretty much look the same when I come home as I did when I left in the morning.

What have you been loving recently?

Lots of Love,

Sophie
