My 18th Birthday

This time last week I turned 18. It was such a beautiful day, so I thought I’d write a post all about the occasion.

I actually started off my birthday with some yoga. If you’re interested it was the Happy Birthday Yoga- Yoga with Adriene. It was so much fun to do and a great way to start the day.

I don’t want to do a full What I got for my Birthday post because I’m sure the majority of things will end up in a favourites post. But I opened my cards and presents before going shopping.

On the Evening, I had a family meal. So this is what I wore. I tried to link the outfit but H&M are down for maintenance. But basically that’s where the whole outfit is from.

IMG_0387So even after everything my Parents had already got me, they topped it off with a cake. I was really grateful and appreciated being able to spend the evening with family.

For the run up to my birthday, I had started to collect food and toys. When I started to think about what I should do for my birthday, I realised I had everything I needed and that I should donate. So now my birthday is over, I’m going to be donating this to the Salvation Army in the next week. I’m so glad I’ve done this and will be definitely doing it again soon. I was definitely surprised how much food I could get for a little price.

2My main birthday present was a Spa day. It was on Thursday and I think its safe to say I’ve found what I want to do every time I want to treat myself. The day started off with Tea and Pastries. The spa day included; shoulder, back massage, facial, hand, arm and foot massage. I was one very lucky girl. We finished the day off with a meal. And I honestly don’t think I could have been more grateful for the whole experience. My Mum and I have already decided we need to do it again for her Birthday.

Lots of Love,

What I got for Christmas 2017

I’ve been wondering how to start this post because quite frankly, I’m a tad saddened Christmas is over. However, thinking positively, I have an exciting year ahead. Before the New Year I did want to share what I received for Christmas. I’m EXTREMELY grateful and didn’t expect any of it.

IMG_4519I’ve really wanted to try some products from La Roche-Posay for a while now so I was very grateful when family had bought me a couple bits. And ever since I’d watched Lydia Millen’s vlog I really wanted to read ‘How to Be An Overnight Success’  by Maria Hatzistefanis. One present I’ve been surprised with is this Champneys Detox Facial Cleansing brush. It leaves my skin feeling 1000x cleaner and super soft.

IMG_4520My Mum asked me to write a list of things I’d want for Christmas. I couldn’t really think of much because I didn’t need anything, so I wrote a couple things I wanted to try. For example the Maybelline Lash Sensational, because I feel I’m the only person who hasn’t tried it. I’ve hit pan on most of the shades in the Sleek Precious metals Highlighting Palette so I appreciated getting another one. I also received this SEVENTEEN Skin Wow Primer, which is so cool because you can mix it with your foundation, use it as a primer or as a highlighter. I used it as a highlighter yesterday and its a lovely subtle glow. My best friend also bought me this HUGE eyeshadow palette, it has the most beautiful shades and I can’t wait to try them.

IMG_4521I was super grateful with the jewellery I got this year. Specifically these absolutely gorgeous earrings my Mum bought me from GUESS. They look as if you’re wearing more than one earring and I just think they’re really different and cool.

So usually on Christmas morning, we’re all in our pyjamas, taking our time to open presents and be appreciative for what we’ve received. This year, my Mum said we all had to get dressed first and when it came to opening presents my parents were quite quick with it. Which had me baffled. Then once I’d thought all the presents were open, my Mum handed me one more and this was my reaction…

FullSizeRenderIn there was a set of keys..

IMG_4518To this CAR. I honestly couldn’t feel my legs all day I was so shocked. Fiat 500’s have always been my dream car (especially these coloured ones) but because of the price tag I never thought that I’d ever own one. I was speechless. I still am. I’ve already had a couple drives and will have a few more in the next few days. I’m still getting comfortable with it but it is easy to drive and has the most beautiful interior (and exterior). I’m just so grateful I’ve been at a loss for words since Christmas day.

I’m so grateful for everything I got this year and I’m still in shock. Hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

What did you get for Christmas?

University Open Day Comparison: Manchester Metropolitan vs Leeds Beckett

For the past couple of days, I haven’t been feeling great, hence why this post is up late because I have ZERO energy. Anyways, in the past couple of weeks, I’ve attended 2 University Open days and I thought I could compare the two in a post.

Before, I get into it, I wrote a post about the first Open day I went to which was Northumbria. I didn’t see the point in comparing that one as well because you can just read all about it here.

Leeds Beckett

So I realise that the organisation of the day shouldn’t represent my overall judgement on the University. However, when it took 4 hours to drive 65 miles, it didn’t put me in the greatest of moods. I can totally understand that it was going to be busy. But to spend 2 hours in a multi-storey car park looking for a space wasn’t great. I found out that there was actually 2 University Open Days happening and a rugby match. So for me, that just seems badly planned.

Moving onto the University itself, I can’t say I felt the day got much better. Maybe because I wasn’t in the greatest of moods to begin with, because of how long it took to get there or maybe I did have valid reason to my judgement.

Here’s what I thought:

  1. There was a lack of students. Maybe there was plenty, I just didn’t see them. Yes for sure I saw Student Tour Guides. But I wanted to meet Students who did the course I was interested in to gain their insight.
  2. The lecture. I was so excited to have 40 minutes of knowledge about the Fashion course I wanted to do. However, it was only 20 minutes and the other half was about Fashion Marketing, which I’m not interested in. I couldn’t even leave discreetly because it was in the fashion classroom.
  3. The stands were unhelpful. When I found the Design stand, I was told I’m best off just going to the lecture because they personally had no information on the course.
  4. The detail into the course. At LAST I have a positive, during the talk I did appreciate the depth they went into to talk about what the course entails.
  5. The course itself. The thing I like most about the course is that they put a real emphasis on photographing the garments they make. Which is great for me as I do Photography at A- Level and it would be a shame to let that go to waste.

Overall, I liked the course but I didn’t find the University right for me.

Manchester Metropolitan

We took advantage of the park and ride service the University had on offer and as soon as we arrived there was someone there to take us to sign in. Everyone seemed so friendly and there was a plethora of people on hand to help.

IMG_4087This fashion Lecture, didn’t disappoint. I love that there was a real emphasis on the amount of well known brands that reach out to the University and how many graduates get great jobs within the industry.

IMG_4097After the Fashion talk, we found the Fashion stand. A lady there suggested we go to the Fashion Design and Technology Lecture as well. She was so lovely she even walked us round to the exact building it was taking place.

After the Fashion Design and Technology lecture, we had a tour around that building. And from what people had said to me during that time, I’d guessed there was another building for Fashion and art subjects.

So after having a 10 minute argument with my Dad about this second building, we found the second building…I refrained myself from saying “I told you so”.

And let me tell you, it was BEAUTIFUL. (the building not the satisfaction of being right.)

The facilities were AMAZING. I was in awe of all the machinery. A room filled with knitting machines, another with looms, another just different types of sewing machines. I also really loved the amount of space there was for students who weren’t in lesson, that you could just grab a desk and start working.

Overall, I LOVED Manchester, it was the city I was born in and even though I now live 2 hours away, it felt like it could be home again.

About Me

How I Organise my Wardrobe

A quick read of a post from me this week, (college has been MAJORLY hectic).

I’d consider myself to be a fairly organised/tidy person but when it comes to my wardrobe, it ALWAYS ends up in a mess. So every so often, I have to go through it to put things back on hangers, find appropriate places for my shoes and usually put one or two things away for charity.

Today, was one of those days that I had to tackle the wardrobe and thought I may as well make a post out of it.

IMG_3925I’m ashamed to say this is what it was looking like before I managed to get a hold of it all. In all honesty, don’t be thinking this ends up looking like a whole new wardrobe, I’m not that good of a tidy uperer. (not a word? ok.)

First thing to do is obviously put your clothes in colour order? It was my first step anyways. I made sure to put all tops together, then jackets and then dressy outfits. Then when they were each in their category, I put them in a bit of a colour order. I know it won’t last, I’m definitely not a Monica from Friends.

IMG_3923Next, it was to tackle the over head bit, I’m sure it has a proper name. Oh wait, its probably just a shelf, nevermind. Anyways, I like to be able to see my shoes and take great pride in my heels I probably only wear once a year. So, I realigned them and got rid of anything on that shelf that wasn’t a shoe.

IMG_3922Finally, I had to have a place to put a couple of my favourite bags. Which had to be in the last available space which was on top of my wardrobe. I have to admit, I’m not the fondest of having things on there, but I really don’t have anywhere else to put them.

Where do you store your bags?

About Me

Northumbria University Open Day

On Saturday the 1st of July, I went to my first University Open day. Northumbria has been the place to appeal to me the most so I was so excited about visiting and they definitely did not disappoint.

IMG_3161We arrived at 9:30, it took us about an hour in the car to get there and it was surprisingly easy to find. I know there are two campuses and that there was shuttle buses to take you to the other one but I just stayed at the City Campus.

You also got a couple of bags that had booklets of information, a newspaper and of course a free pen.

IMG_3159This was the main hall where all the stands were, they included information about each course, accommodation, finances, studying abroad and work placement. There was also refreshments, which was handy for my Dad who seemed to have about 3 cups of coffee. Also the picture above only shows half of the hall, if that gives you a sense of how big it was.

I headed straight for the Design stand which was right in the corner.  I ended up speaking to one of the students on the stand for about 40 minutes, she was so lovely and gave me a ton of information. Everything from the course itself, preparations for the interview and even the best shops to get samples.

IMG_3160There was a fashion lecture at 12. So after talking to the people at the stand we ended up having an hour to spare to wander round. We walked round to the Design building and got speaking to another student and professor about the fashion course. Whilst my questions had been answered by the previous student at the stand, the second student seemed to have plenty more to tell me and I could actually look through other students portfolios. I found this really helpful and interesting because I got to see the amount of work that’s produced and the quality of it too.

IMG_3162Anyways, we had the Fashion lecture in the Business building which was really useful because it thoroughly explained the different courses within Fashion and just helped me to solidify which course I am actually interested in.

We then headed back to the Design building and had a tour of the studios. The facilities are amazing and are absolutely massive. Also, I just want to apologise for this picture being a bit blurry, I was on a tour with just one other family and it was really difficult to take pictures without anyone noticing.

I was in awe at the work that has been produced by students there. It has me aspiring to one day be at that same level.

IMG_3164I had such an amazing day- not just because it was my first Saturday off work in about 3 months. But because Northumbria had been the University I liked the look of the most and to actually be able to look around the Campus, meet students and just in general have more information, it has just reassured me that its still my first choice.

Have you been to any University Open Days? Are you at University currently?

See you Soon.

About Me

Why I took a Break from Blogging.

I see so many posts of people coming back from blogging after a few months or even a year (which is absolutely fine). For me, I haven’t uploaded in a couple of weeks but it feels like its been a lifetime.

Since I’ve been M.I.A for a little while I thought I would do this short post just to update you all with my life and my thoughts on getting back to blogging.

What I’ve been up to.

My life has gone from just having college to having college, going to work, having driving lessons.

Whilst I’m grateful I have a job and that I’m learning to drive, its starting to become infuriating that I have no idea how to juggle everything and still be able to do what I loved doing before. Such as blogging, yoga, reading, taking Alfie on long-ass walks (my dad still walks him) and SHOPPING! It was just the other day my shopping afternoon got cut short because I had a unexpected shift at work.

Apart from me still figuring out all this (which I’m sure I will very soon), I bloody love driving, I never would have imagined how well I’ve taken to it.

A New Direction for this Blog.

After a two week break, (legit a holiday period of time) I feel refreshed to get back into blogging. However, I do have a couple of changes I want to implement. First off, as much as I love posting whatever I want I’d like to have more of a theme because I feel like it may help me come up with more ideas. Anyways, the theme will be beauty, fashion, etc as this is my main point of interest, there will of course be a few lifestyle posts (I can’t help myself.) Also, in my creative courses at college (there’s a mouthful for you) I now get to choose my own topic, its called a Personal Investigation, so I’ve chosen fashion for both. So again with college work and blogging being linked closely I think this will help with me coming up with ideas.

I am going to go back to posting once a week just until my life is back to being organised. This way, I’ll be able to put all my effort into one post rather than half it for two posts. And I’ll be 110% happier with the outcome of one post.

Have you ever taken a break from blogging?

See you next week.

Love, Sophie

About Me

A New Chapter.

Life is about to get hectic. And I’m okay with that. But I thought Today’s post should be brief reasons why, just in case any of you were at all interested.

1. Driving Lessons.

From May 1st, I’m hoping to have driving lessons on the mornings of Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. You’re probably like Sophie that’s ages away. And yes it is, but that’s the week College gets back to normal after Easter and trial exams. Also, before I’m starting lessons with a qualified instructor my Mum is taking me to different quiet areas where I can learn the basics.

(This is obviously a before picture)

2. Upcycling.

I’ve started a new hobby. Its time consuming but fun to do nevertheless. Its as well something I’m very excited to start blogging about. Basically, at the minute, in my free time I’m upcycling some of our old furniture. Today, I’ve been busy sanding down some Dining Chairs. These are obviously a work in progress but I can’t wait to start doing DIY posts.

3. College.

When am I ever free of College work? I take such time consuming subjects, that I could always be doing something for one of the courses. Recently, my grades have improved and I can see its because of the extra effort I’ve been putting in and obviously if I know what needs doing to get the grades I want, I can’t stop now.

4. Blogging.

For the past 2 and a 1/2 years now Blogging has been part of my life. I obviously love it and enjoy it enough to want to keep going with it. As well as that, its something I’m proud of myself for. Anyways, maybe it was a couple of months ago now but I started posting twice a week (Sundays & Wednesdays) which I’m still doing now. Surprisingly, it takes up a lot more time than I thought it would. I absolutely commend anyone who posts more than that, I don’t know how you do it (or even think of all the post ideas). I definitely need to become more organised.

5. A Job.

Yesterday, I got offered a job. I hadn’t handed in a C.V or filled out an application form. I didn’t even get interviewed. My Mum and I went out for Breakfast (it was my Mums birthday) and the owner of the café/restaurant just offered me a job there and then. Obviously, I’ve been super fortunate and had to accept as so many other people my age are struggling to find a job at the moment. I do just want to say I do know the owner (my Mum knows him more) but not enough to be offered a job straight off. Anyways, I’m very appreciative and I start on Saturday.

If you’ve read this far, well done!! This is quite random. But if you know how to get tiny splinters out of your hand it would be very helpful. For the life of me, I just can’t get a splinter out after I’d been sanding down the chairs.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. Kind of felt it may have been a tad boring because what’s interesting about my life? Oh well, see you soon.

Love, Sophie

About Me

My Weekend

Just a short post from me this week. I wanted to try out writing a post about my weekend to see if I enjoyed making it and whether there’s actually anyone interested in what I get up to (probably not). But this weekend, I had different things to do on both days, which doesn’t tend to happen too often. So here’s what I got up to…

7:30am- I woke up which is quite early for a weekend, for me anyways.

IMG_2229My bed is an absolute state because Alfie jumps on it so I have this white teddy bear blanket to cover it.

9:30am- Shopping, its been a while since I had shopped so early in the morning. But what helped is this quick little Costa Visit.

12:00pm- I had some Design Work to finish off which included me using my sewing machine.

1:45pm- Workout. When I had been shopping, I’d bought myself some sport clothes for when I do some yoga. Obviously, this gave me motivation to work out later in the day.

3:00pm- I began panicking that Mothers Day was just a week away so I made some quick purchases on Amazon.

4:30pm- I decided to have an early bath because Saturday Night is usually the highlight of my week so I wanted to make sure it lasted as long as possible.

5:30pm- I don’t usually have dinner this early but I ended up having the best fettuccine. I also watched the movie ‘How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days’. It was soo good.

6:30pm- My Mum and I decided to have a mini pamper evening. So we got the foot spa out and painted our nails before watching Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

11:00pm- I took Alfie out to do his business and then went to sleep.

6:20am- I know I’d had an early start on the previous day but there was no way the beginning of my day was starting at 6:20 when Alfie woke me up to go out. So 8:30 is actually the time I got myself out of bed.

11:00am- Garden Centre. I needed some pictures for a photography shoot and obviously it was the perfect place. Walking through all of these flowers was weirdly calming.

12:00pm- EEEEGGHH my Mum took me out in the car to show me the basics. Then I sat in the drivers seat for the first time and it was so SCARY. I realised that I could retain all of the information my Mum gave me about the gears etc. But putting that into practice I was quite bad at. I’m sure I’ll get better over time…hopefully.

1:00pm- Baking. I baked some quiches and a orange and raisin loaf. I usually love baking but I could just tell I shouldn’t have bothered because everything seemed to be going wrong.

2:30pm- I started to do a variety of things. So first off I took some blog pictures, I then cleaned my makeup brushes and then started writing the blog posts for the week. Also, my Mum made beef baguettes which tasted INSANE. Ugh, I’m so glad someone in the house can cook.

4:00pm- Workout. I just repeated similar stuff to what I did yesterday, following some of my favourite Blogilates videos. Finishing off with Yoga With Adriene.

6:00pm- It gets to the point of the evening where I’ll just be reading other peoples blog posts, maybe put a facemask on. But mainly relax with the family, bracing myself for the week ahead. I’ll try to go to sleep around 10:30pm but Sunday nights are always quite hard.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. I’d love any feedback you have on it, about the set up or just the idea of the post itself. See you soon.

Love, Sophie

About Me

What I got for My 17th Birthday

It was my Birthday on Friday and even though I had to go to College, I had such a lovely day, and I was truly spoilt by the people in my life. This isn’t me trying to boast about what I received because I’m so grateful for everything and I always love reading these posts from other bloggers.

blog-5Firstly, from my best friends, they got me the Jimmy Choo Eau De Parfum. It smells INCREDIBLE. I was so appreciative and I love the size and packaging of this.

blogNext up was from my favourite blogging friend Béline. I was not expecting anything as I’m just super grateful to have made a friend through blogging in the first place. But it put the biggest smile on my face to receive this eyeshadow brush and really cute notebooks. Thank you so much Béline!

blog-3 One thing I’m obsessed with already is this bag from Dorothy Perkins. It is actually so much smaller than you think, which is just what I need for when I go shopping. My Parents got me this and I think it was just so I stopped giving them my purse to carry. But either way, its much appreciated.

Along with the bag, my Parents also bought driving lessons as I can now start to learn to drive, which is very exciting.

My parents decided to go one step further and surprise me with a trip to Newcastle, one of my favourite cities, so expect a couple posts from that.

blog-1Finally from my Parents I got some jewellery (many I couldn’t photograph because I was already wearing it, oops.) My Mum also bought me this French Dictionary because her exact words were “Don’t think I’m letting you give up learning French.” Which is fair enough and probably the reminder I needed.

My Mum’s friend also got me another bag, along with this AVON Lipgloss and compact mirror. Which are all really cute.

blog-4My best friend from Psychology class got me this Jack Wills English Velvet Set, this smells AMAZING and will for sure become my everyday scent. She also got me these cute lipsticks made of chocolate. Which has given me an idea to make cupcakes but that’s kind of beside the point. I was so grateful for this bunch of presents and I was very lucky.

Finally, my cousin bought me the Tanya Bakes book and it has all the BEST recipes. I’ve wanted it for a while but was worried I might not use it as much as I should. But now I have it, I can’t wait to try as many as possible.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post, I was so grateful for everything I received. I also got money off my Parents and the majority of family so I was thankful for that too. I also have a week off now so I can have a bit of a break from College. WOOHOO. Anyways, See you Soon.

Love, Sophie

16 Things to Happen to me in 2016

It kind of bothered me that I hadn’t actually done a post looking back at 2016. And since I’d done one last year, it feels only right to commemorate the end of the year somehow. Even though, we’ll be going into the second month of the year shortly. Here are 16 things to happen to me in 2016.

45c78e7f-e738-4892-a902-dda64dcce1fe1. I turned 16!

This was a pretty big milestone for me at the time. But now, I’m not far off from 17, which seems crazy in itself.

2. Getting Alfie

Alfie was my 16th Birthday present. He was the highlight of my year and I can’t believe its been almost 12 months since I got to pick him up.

3. Helmsley

I got to visit the cutest village and I can’t wait to go again.

49a9a7ba-1859-436f-a98e-e1c87e0181ec4. Alton Towers

During my last year of Secondary school, we had a trip to Alton Towers. It was INSANE! I love the adrenaline rush off rides.

5. Leaving School

YESS I finally got to leave the school I’d spent 5 years in and I couldn’t have been happier.

6. Sunderland Air Show

I was really young when I last went to the Sunderland Air Show. So it was an incredible experience to go again.

7. Explored

During 2016, I explored all the places I’d been numerous times but hadn’t truly taken the time out to see.

8. Prom

I don’t think there’s anything I really need to say apart from it being a very memorable evening.

9. GCSE Results

I collected my results and to say that I was happy was an understatement. They were pretty average results to most but I was just ecstatic that I’d passed everything. That day I remember feeling the happiest I had done in a while because the hard work had paid off.

My GCSE Results

10. Starting College

College/Sixth form, whichever you know it as, I started it. And even though it is harder work, I appreciate the free time I have so I can keep up with it.

11. Pen Pal

2016 was the year I started writing to someone again. I’d missed it so much. So I was so grateful when my best blogging friend Béline and I arranged to write to each other. We’re both so busy so its great to be able to take time out to write a letter to keep in touch and to keep the other up to date with our lives. By the way, if you haven’t already you NEED to check out Béline’s blog. I can guarantee you will love it as much as I do.

12. 500 followers

I 100% don’t blog for followers. But something I can never get my head round is why so many people would choose to follow me. Therefore, it was very much a highlight of my year to see that 500 people decided to click that follow button on my blog. I’m forever grateful and its so crazy to think that I’ve almost hit 600.

13. Making New Friends

Obviously since starting College, I made many more friends. Some that I can tell will be in my life for a very long time to come.

14. Newcastle

I spent a couple nights away in the beautiful city of Newcastle. Seriously the amount of photo opportunities! Also the shopping was great.

15. Christmas

Like my birthday, Christmas is a yearly occurrence but 2016 had to be a favourite Christmas of mine. Mainly, because I managed to give the most presents I’ve ever given to my parents before, and they deserve every one.

16. I found myself beginning to be okay with myself.

Maybe none of you will understand what I mean. But for me, its taken me what feels like forever to start and be okay with how I look, how I feel and everything in between. 2016 was the year I realised that this is me and that’s not always a bad thing.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. Sorry the pictures weren’t evenly spread out I was trying to put the points in semi chronological order. However, I did quite like how I tied the highlights of last year up into this post. Finally, it was a nice Goodbye to 2016. See you soon.

Love, Sophie
