Northumbria University Open Day

On Saturday the 1st of July, I went to my first University Open day. Northumbria has been the place to appeal to me the most so I was so excited about visiting and they definitely did not disappoint.

IMG_3161We arrived at 9:30, it took us about an hour in the car to get there and it was surprisingly easy to find. I know there are two campuses and that there was shuttle buses to take you to the other one but I just stayed at the City Campus.

You also got a couple of bags that had booklets of information, a newspaper and of course a free pen.

IMG_3159This was the main hall where all the stands were, they included information about each course, accommodation, finances, studying abroad and work placement. There was also refreshments, which was handy for my Dad who seemed to have about 3 cups of coffee. Also the picture above only shows half of the hall, if that gives you a sense of how big it was.

I headed straight for the Design stand which was right in the corner.  I ended up speaking to one of the students on the stand for about 40 minutes, she was so lovely and gave me a ton of information. Everything from the course itself, preparations for the interview and even the best shops to get samples.

IMG_3160There was a fashion lecture at 12. So after talking to the people at the stand we ended up having an hour to spare to wander round. We walked round to the Design building and got speaking to another student and professor about the fashion course. Whilst my questions had been answered by the previous student at the stand, the second student seemed to have plenty more to tell me and I could actually look through other students portfolios. I found this really helpful and interesting because I got to see the amount of work that’s produced and the quality of it too.

IMG_3162Anyways, we had the Fashion lecture in the Business building which was really useful because it thoroughly explained the different courses within Fashion and just helped me to solidify which course I am actually interested in.

We then headed back to the Design building and had a tour of the studios. The facilities are amazing and are absolutely massive. Also, I just want to apologise for this picture being a bit blurry, I was on a tour with just one other family and it was really difficult to take pictures without anyone noticing.

IMG_3163

I was in awe at the work that has been produced by students there. It has me aspiring to one day be at that same level.

IMG_3164I had such an amazing day- not just because it was my first Saturday off work in about 3 months. But because Northumbria had been the University I liked the look of the most and to actually be able to look around the Campus, meet students and just in general have more information, it has just reassured me that its still my first choice.

Have you been to any University Open Days? Are you at University currently?

See you Soon.

About Me

Why I took a Break from Blogging.

I see so many posts of people coming back from blogging after a few months or even a year (which is absolutely fine). For me, I haven’t uploaded in a couple of weeks but it feels like its been a lifetime.

Since I’ve been M.I.A for a little while I thought I would do this short post just to update you all with my life and my thoughts on getting back to blogging.

IMG_2849

What I’ve been up to.

My life has gone from just having college to having college, going to work, having driving lessons.

Whilst I’m grateful I have a job and that I’m learning to drive, its starting to become infuriating that I have no idea how to juggle everything and still be able to do what I loved doing before. Such as blogging, yoga, reading, taking Alfie on long-ass walks (my dad still walks him) and SHOPPING! It was just the other day my shopping afternoon got cut short because I had a unexpected shift at work.

Apart from me still figuring out all this (which I’m sure I will very soon), I bloody love driving, I never would have imagined how well I’ve taken to it.

IMG_2813

A New Direction for this Blog.

After a two week break, (legit a holiday period of time) I feel refreshed to get back into blogging. However, I do have a couple of changes I want to implement. First off, as much as I love posting whatever I want I’d like to have more of a theme because I feel like it may help me come up with more ideas. Anyways, the theme will be beauty, fashion, etc as this is my main point of interest, there will of course be a few lifestyle posts (I can’t help myself.) Also, in my creative courses at college (there’s a mouthful for you) I now get to choose my own topic, its called a Personal Investigation, so I’ve chosen fashion for both. So again with college work and blogging being linked closely I think this will help with me coming up with ideas.

I am going to go back to posting once a week just until my life is back to being organised. This way, I’ll be able to put all my effort into one post rather than half it for two posts. And I’ll be 110% happier with the outcome of one post.

Have you ever taken a break from blogging?

See you next week.

Love, Sophie

About Me

A New Chapter.

Life is about to get hectic. And I’m okay with that. But I thought Today’s post should be brief reasons why, just in case any of you were at all interested.

1. Driving Lessons.

From May 1st, I’m hoping to have driving lessons on the mornings of Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. You’re probably like Sophie that’s ages away. And yes it is, but that’s the week College gets back to normal after Easter and trial exams. Also, before I’m starting lessons with a qualified instructor my Mum is taking me to different quiet areas where I can learn the basics.

(This is obviously a before picture)

2. Upcycling.

I’ve started a new hobby. Its time consuming but fun to do nevertheless. Its as well something I’m very excited to start blogging about. Basically, at the minute, in my free time I’m upcycling some of our old furniture. Today, I’ve been busy sanding down some Dining Chairs. These are obviously a work in progress but I can’t wait to start doing DIY posts.

3. College.

When am I ever free of College work? I take such time consuming subjects, that I could always be doing something for one of the courses. Recently, my grades have improved and I can see its because of the extra effort I’ve been putting in and obviously if I know what needs doing to get the grades I want, I can’t stop now.

4. Blogging.

For the past 2 and a 1/2 years now Blogging has been part of my life. I obviously love it and enjoy it enough to want to keep going with it. As well as that, its something I’m proud of myself for. Anyways, maybe it was a couple of months ago now but I started posting twice a week (Sundays & Wednesdays) which I’m still doing now. Surprisingly, it takes up a lot more time than I thought it would. I absolutely commend anyone who posts more than that, I don’t know how you do it (or even think of all the post ideas). I definitely need to become more organised.

5. A Job.

Yesterday, I got offered a job. I hadn’t handed in a C.V or filled out an application form. I didn’t even get interviewed. My Mum and I went out for Breakfast (it was my Mums birthday) and the owner of the café/restaurant just offered me a job there and then. Obviously, I’ve been super fortunate and had to accept as so many other people my age are struggling to find a job at the moment. I do just want to say I do know the owner (my Mum knows him more) but not enough to be offered a job straight off. Anyways, I’m very appreciative and I start on Saturday.

If you’ve read this far, well done!! This is quite random. But if you know how to get tiny splinters out of your hand it would be very helpful. For the life of me, I just can’t get a splinter out after I’d been sanding down the chairs.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. Kind of felt it may have been a tad boring because what’s interesting about my life? Oh well, see you soon.

Love, Sophie

About Me

My Weekend

Just a short post from me this week. I wanted to try out writing a post about my weekend to see if I enjoyed making it and whether there’s actually anyone interested in what I get up to (probably not). But this weekend, I had different things to do on both days, which doesn’t tend to happen too often. So here’s what I got up to…

Saturday

7:30am- I woke up which is quite early for a weekend, for me anyways.

IMG_2229My bed is an absolute state because Alfie jumps on it so I have this white teddy bear blanket to cover it.

9:30am- Shopping, its been a while since I had shopped so early in the morning. But what helped is this quick little Costa Visit.

IMG_2233

12:00pm- I had some Design Work to finish off which included me using my sewing machine.

IMG_2228

1:45pm- Workout. When I had been shopping, I’d bought myself some sport clothes for when I do some yoga. Obviously, this gave me motivation to work out later in the day.

3:00pm- I began panicking that Mothers Day was just a week away so I made some quick purchases on Amazon.

4:30pm- I decided to have an early bath because Saturday Night is usually the highlight of my week so I wanted to make sure it lasted as long as possible.

5:30pm- I don’t usually have dinner this early but I ended up having the best fettuccine. I also watched the movie ‘How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days’. It was soo good.

6:30pm- My Mum and I decided to have a mini pamper evening. So we got the foot spa out and painted our nails before watching Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

IMG_2227

11:00pm- I took Alfie out to do his business and then went to sleep.

IMG_2234

Sunday

6:20am- I know I’d had an early start on the previous day but there was no way the beginning of my day was starting at 6:20 when Alfie woke me up to go out. So 8:30 is actually the time I got myself out of bed.

IMG_2230

11:00am- Garden Centre. I needed some pictures for a photography shoot and obviously it was the perfect place. Walking through all of these flowers was weirdly calming.

IMG_2236

12:00pm- EEEEGGHH my Mum took me out in the car to show me the basics. Then I sat in the drivers seat for the first time and it was so SCARY. I realised that I could retain all of the information my Mum gave me about the gears etc. But putting that into practice I was quite bad at. I’m sure I’ll get better over time…hopefully.

IMG_2231

1:00pm- Baking. I baked some quiches and a orange and raisin loaf. I usually love baking but I could just tell I shouldn’t have bothered because everything seemed to be going wrong.

IMG_2243

2:30pm- I started to do a variety of things. So first off I took some blog pictures, I then cleaned my makeup brushes and then started writing the blog posts for the week. Also, my Mum made beef baguettes which tasted INSANE. Ugh, I’m so glad someone in the house can cook.

IMG_2244

4:00pm- Workout. I just repeated similar stuff to what I did yesterday, following some of my favourite Blogilates videos. Finishing off with Yoga With Adriene.

IMG_2245

6:00pm- It gets to the point of the evening where I’ll just be reading other peoples blog posts, maybe put a facemask on. But mainly relax with the family, bracing myself for the week ahead. I’ll try to go to sleep around 10:30pm but Sunday nights are always quite hard.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. I’d love any feedback you have on it, about the set up or just the idea of the post itself. See you soon.

Love, Sophie

About Me

What I got for My 17th Birthday

It was my Birthday on Friday and even though I had to go to College, I had such a lovely day, and I was truly spoilt by the people in my life. This isn’t me trying to boast about what I received because I’m so grateful for everything and I always love reading these posts from other bloggers.

blog-5Firstly, from my best friends, they got me the Jimmy Choo Eau De Parfum. It smells INCREDIBLE. I was so appreciative and I love the size and packaging of this.

blogNext up was from my favourite blogging friend Béline. I was not expecting anything as I’m just super grateful to have made a friend through blogging in the first place. But it put the biggest smile on my face to receive this eyeshadow brush and really cute notebooks. Thank you so much Béline!

blog-3 One thing I’m obsessed with already is this bag from Dorothy Perkins. It is actually so much smaller than you think, which is just what I need for when I go shopping. My Parents got me this and I think it was just so I stopped giving them my purse to carry. But either way, its much appreciated.

Along with the bag, my Parents also bought driving lessons as I can now start to learn to drive, which is very exciting.

My parents decided to go one step further and surprise me with a trip to Newcastle, one of my favourite cities, so expect a couple posts from that.

blog-1Finally from my Parents I got some jewellery (many I couldn’t photograph because I was already wearing it, oops.) My Mum also bought me this French Dictionary because her exact words were “Don’t think I’m letting you give up learning French.” Which is fair enough and probably the reminder I needed.

My Mum’s friend also got me another bag, along with this AVON Lipgloss and compact mirror. Which are all really cute.

blog-4My best friend from Psychology class got me this Jack Wills English Velvet Set, this smells AMAZING and will for sure become my everyday scent. She also got me these cute lipsticks made of chocolate. Which has given me an idea to make cupcakes but that’s kind of beside the point. I was so grateful for this bunch of presents and I was very lucky.

blog-2

Finally, my cousin bought me the Tanya Bakes book and it has all the BEST recipes. I’ve wanted it for a while but was worried I might not use it as much as I should. But now I have it, I can’t wait to try as many as possible.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post, I was so grateful for everything I received. I also got money off my Parents and the majority of family so I was thankful for that too. I also have a week off now so I can have a bit of a break from College. WOOHOO. Anyways, See you Soon.

16 Things to Happen to me in 2016

It kind of bothered me that I hadn’t actually done a post looking back at 2016. And since I’d done one last year, it feels only right to commemorate the end of the year somehow. Even though, we’ll be going into the second month of the year shortly. Here are 16 things to happen to me in 2016.

45c78e7f-e738-4892-a902-dda64dcce1fe1. I turned 16!

This was a pretty big milestone for me at the time. But now, I’m not far off from 17, which seems crazy in itself.

2. Getting Alfie

Alfie was my 16th Birthday present. He was the highlight of my year and I can’t believe its been almost 12 months since I got to pick him up.

3. Helmsley

I got to visit the cutest village and I can’t wait to go again.

49a9a7ba-1859-436f-a98e-e1c87e0181ec4. Alton Towers

During my last year of Secondary school, we had a trip to Alton Towers. It was INSANE! I love the adrenaline rush off rides.

5. Leaving School

YESS I finally got to leave the school I’d spent 5 years in and I couldn’t have been happier.

6. Sunderland Air Show

I was really young when I last went to the Sunderland Air Show. So it was an incredible experience to go again.

7. Explored

During 2016, I explored all the places I’d been numerous times but hadn’t truly taken the time out to see.

8ed609d3-d230-4ad5-822c-3bca3f95e634

8. Prom

I don’t think there’s anything I really need to say apart from it being a very memorable evening.

9. GCSE Results

I collected my results and to say that I was happy was an understatement. They were pretty average results to most but I was just ecstatic that I’d passed everything. That day I remember feeling the happiest I had done in a while because the hard work had paid off.

My GCSE Results

10. Starting College

College/Sixth form, whichever you know it as, I started it. And even though it is harder work, I appreciate the free time I have so I can keep up with it.

11. Pen Pal

2016 was the year I started writing to someone again. I’d missed it so much. So I was so grateful when my best blogging friend Béline and I arranged to write to each other. We’re both so busy so its great to be able to take time out to write a letter to keep in touch and to keep the other up to date with our lives. By the way, if you haven’t already you NEED to check out Béline’s blog. I can guarantee you will love it as much as I do.

12. 500 followers

I 100% don’t blog for followers. But something I can never get my head round is why so many people would choose to follow me. Therefore, it was very much a highlight of my year to see that 500 people decided to click that follow button on my blog. I’m forever grateful and its so crazy to think that I’ve almost hit 600.

13. Making New Friends

Obviously since starting College, I made many more friends. Some that I can tell will be in my life for a very long time to come.

img_1007

14. Newcastle

I spent a couple nights away in the beautiful city of Newcastle. Seriously the amount of photo opportunities! Also the shopping was great.

img_1159

15. Christmas

Like my birthday, Christmas is a yearly occurrence but 2016 had to be a favourite Christmas of mine. Mainly, because I managed to give the most presents I’ve ever given to my parents before, and they deserve every one.

16. I found myself beginning to be okay with myself.

Maybe none of you will understand what I mean. But for me, its taken me what feels like forever to start and be okay with how I look, how I feel and everything in between. 2016 was the year I realised that this is me and that’s not always a bad thing.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. Sorry the pictures weren’t evenly spread out I was trying to put the points in semi chronological order. However, I did quite like how I tied the highlights of last year up into this post. Finally, it was a nice Goodbye to 2016. See you soon.

About Me

What’s In My Bag?!

This is such a popular post and in the almost two years I’ve been blogging, I have yet to do a classic What’s In My Bag. (If you’re intrigued to my closest post it was this one.)

Firstly, the bag itself. This is the Zoella On My Travels Back Pack. I just think its beautiful, the colour, the style, everything. I love the unique detailing, for example; the ‘Z’ at the bottom; the vibrant pink and the fact there’s no buckle (is that the right fastening type? Probably not.)

img_1462 So the bag comes with a Travel Mug with a couple of other goodies. But I’ve just stuck with the Mug for now because its so cute not to take with me everywhere I go and obviously put it to use.

I also like to carry around a clip, just in case I decide I want to put my hair up. Cause trust me, having EXTREMELY long hair can get sometimes irritating.

Recently, I’ve been obsessed with the Soap & Glory Mother Pucker Lip Gloss, its not a recent purchase. But if I’m in a hurry and just cant decide on a lip colour, I love using this.

img_1461I know its so easy to use our phones to check if our Makeup game is still strong. But sometimes you just need something a bit clearer and just as handy. This is the Ted Baker Compact Mirror and I think its the perfect size to carry around.

I was never usually the type of person to listen to music when I’m out and about. Although, since starting college rules on ‘phones’ are much more lenient so I can listen to music during lessons for example. Which means I carry earphones EVERYWHERE.

img_1466

During Winter, my lips dry up so easily so its always nice to be able to apply Vaseline. Or if I’ve forgotten to put on lipstick I can turn to this, if I’m not feeling a lip gloss.

Obviously, in my bag I have my Purse and I’ve had this for so long now, I don’t even know where its from. Buts its so handy and very durable.

img_1463One essential of mine is definitely the Victoria’s Secret Sheer Love Fragrance Mist. I pretty much use this everyday. I take it with me, but its not very often I find myself topping up because of the long lasting scent.

Finally, going back to the hair situation, I need to have a Tangle Teezer at hand. I love how travel friendly this is.

img_1459Lets just appreciate that during me trying to take blog pictures, Alfie went into protest that I was taking too long.

img_1460

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. I’m going to try and start posting twice a week; Sundays and Wednesdays. Wednesdays post will be more laid back, maybe just pictures I’ve taken, or guest posts. Sundays post will be my more usual content. Comment your top essentials that you have in your bag. See you soon.

About Me

2017 Goals

I have been back and forth with the idea of writing a New Years Resolution styled post. And yes, I agree Resolutions can seem pointless because if you want to change your life in some way, you can do it at any point in the year. But you have to admit, it gets to the end of the year and its hard not to think about what you want to get out of the next. And that’s exactly what I’ve done, so here are my ‘intentions’ shall we say..

Live a Healthier Lifestyle

This is stereotypically most peoples goal at the start of the year, its usually mine every time. Although I have actually surprised myself and I did start early to fulfil this one, since Boxing Day actually. Also, I’ve been making smoothies everyday now and I actually really love them, I’m suddenly obsessed. Finally, I want to start going to the gym or join a fitness class with my mum.

Focus on Blogging

I’ve always had an interest in blogging because if I didn’t I wouldn’t have stuck with it for almost 2 years. But because 2016 was such a busy year for me, I found less time to actually blog.  This year, I want to focus more attention into blogging because its something I love to do. Also, I’d love to do some collaboration posts or just get to know more about the people who’s posts I read regularly (I.E YOU READING THIS!) So if you’re interested in either comment or email me (sophie15samantha@gmail.com)

Become Better at Time Management

I’m either really organised and have everything done and literally end up with nothing to do. Or I have a long list of things that need doing and it either takes me 20 billions years to get it done or I just don’t do it. As well I think need to learn to Prioritise. Obviously I know homework should come before painting my nails for example, but that’s not to say that actually happens. Like now, I’m writing a blog post when I should be revising for my Psychology exam. So clearly its something I need to work on.

Learn to Drive

A couple of weeks ago, I would have said “NOPE, Me? Drive? I’m okay thanks”. And its not because I don’t want to. Its because IM SO DAMN SCARED. I feel like I’d just be one big disaster on the road. Nevertheless, I’ve started to come to terms with learning to drive and I’m just trying to push out any bad thoughts I have on the matter. My Birthday is in early February, so as its getting closer I guess I’m getting more excited to start learning, WISH ME LUCK!

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. I did the same post last year but I had a few more goals then. Probably because this year I’ve decided to have no expectations and just go with the flow. See you soon.

About Me

What I got for Christmas 2016

I’m so gutted that Christmas is practically over. It’s not fair. There’s just the huge build up to Christmas and then it’s over within a blink of an eye.

But enough of me complaining, I was very grateful for what I received and because I did it last year I thought I’d share with you what I got. I won’t include everything, just the fairly interesting stuff.

Cecelia Ahern – Flawed. I love this author and have yet to have read this book so my Mum did very well to pick this one out.
Jennifer Niven- Holding Up the Universe. I asked for this book for Christmas because I read All the Bright Places and loved it. So when I heard this one was coming out I knew I had to get my hands on it.

Sophie Kinsella- Finding Audrey. I’m pretty sure I saw Zoella speak about this in one of her videos. And a while ago I read Twenties girl which both my mum and I love. So I was so happy to get this for Christmas.

Real Techniques Your Picks

My Mums friend got me this super cute compact mirror by Ted Baker. This is going to be so handy to have in my bag.

This excited me SO MUCH. Argh I’ve wanted an urban decay palette for so long but I didn’t know which one to get first because of the shades in each. But I finally settled on this one and I was so fortunate to get it for Christmas. This is the ultimate basics and I just know I’ll use all shades.

I was so grateful for these earrings. They go well together (I have two piercings on each ear). I can’t link them because they’re from a local jewellers.

I read the book Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. So my Mum bought me the DVD. Which by the way, was so good, my Mum may or may not have cried at the movie.

The Big Wedding DVD

My friends got me the most amazing presents. They’re not all here because the others are in use. But I’m so grateful.

Zoella Body Cream

Victoria’s Secret Sheer Love

My parents decided to go above and beyond spoiling me. They know how much I’m obsessed with my room and how I’m very particular about the furniture in there. So to complete it they bought me a Toulouse white cheval mirror. I just can’t get over how pretty it is.
My cousin knows me so well. But I had no idea she’d actually get me the Zoella bag that includes all these goodies inside.

Zoella On My Travels Back Pack

Louis Chair
No7 illuminated Makeup Mirror

I was so grateful to receive so many Soap & Glory products. So instead of including too many pictures I’ll link them instead.
Soaper Heroes

Soaper Spa

Girl O Whirl

In our house, we save two presents for each other for later on in the day just so we have something else to open. For me, these were my presents. I was sooooo surprised. I love that they both match and they’re both so simple and dainty. I can tell I’ll be wearing these, a lot.

Heart Ring

Heart Stud Earrings

Hope you enjoyed my blog post. I didn’t comment on everything I got because that’d probably turn into the longest blog post ever. But I’m so grateful for everything I received yesterday and I hope you’ve had a lovely Christmas. See you soon.

Alfie’s 1st Birthday

This is probably very uninteresting to all of you. But for me, I’m very excited to share all these pictures of my now 1 year old Golden Retriever, Alfie. His birthday was yesterday and to mark the occaison on this blog I thought I’d share pictures that I’ve taken of him over the months.

This was the month I chose Alfie out of a cute litter of puppies. I had to wait till February to pick him up.

I also attempted cupcakes or ‘pupcakes’. But they didn’t really turn out too well. Nevermind…

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. It was so cute looking back at old pictures of Alfie and I can’t believe he’s now 1. The next milestone will be actually having him for 1 year. As well as that being my 2 year blogiversary. Okay, I’ll stop now as this has turned into one of my longest endings. See you soon.
