November Favourites 2017

Usually November is the time of waiting around for Christmas, but I’ve had a lovely little month, so here’s what I’ve been using, doing and enjoying…

Quickly before that, I don’t think I ever said THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for 800 followers. I’m super grateful and didn’t imagine my blog would reach that milestone. Wouldn’t it be crazy to reach 1,000 before my 3 year blogiversary?! Anyways back into the post.

IMG_4302I can’t say my bank account thought November was a ‘lovely, little month’. I may have had a little splurge on clothes (twice). However, it’s all good, it just means I’m set for clothes for a long while and I can post a clothes haul next week. In all seriousness, I FLIPPIN’ LOVE my recent purchases and they’re all now my wardrobe favourites.

Jack Dean ‘JaackMaate’.

He’s a youtuber I’ve been subscribed to for a while now (well before his video on Zoella’s Advent Calendar) and I’ve always had a huge amount of respect for him. Mainly because he just seems to speak truthfully which some would say is a rarity in that industry. I also really like his sense of humour so if you’re not already, go and subscribe here.

I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

I’d like to think if you’re from the U.K, you also watch this programme or at least know of it. I’ve watched it every year, a slither of proof for my love of this show is that I mentioned it in my favourite posts for the last two years.

November 2015

November 2016

I don’t think this counts as a ‘November’ Favourites because I took this little getaway on the 2nd of December. However, I knew I needed to include this here because I LOVED the weekend, spending time with my Mum, Christmas shopping and walking around the beautiful, historic city of Durham.

Taylor Swift ‘Reputation’.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that I have been loving Taylor Swifts new album. I pretty much like ALL of the songs and there’s not any I dislike. I love the shade in ‘This is why we can’t have nice things’ and Ed Sheeran’s feature in ‘End Game’. I just can’t pick a favourite, the whole album is constantly on repeat.

To conclude this favourites post, I’m adding probably a couple random things. First, are earrings. It takes a lot for me to change my ‘go to’ earrings, the ones I wear every day. But I’ve finally changed it up and I’m really loving them because they’re hoops (small ones) and for so long I’ve just been stuck in a rut of wearing studs.

The last favourite from the month is green tea. A bit weird, I know. However, I’m enjoying it a lot recently and I figure its healthier than hot chocolate. I’m also really liking this particular brand, ‘Twining’s’, I’m not too sure what it is but I’ll definitely be picking it up again. (Definitely feel like an old lady after this favourite).

What were some of your November Favourites?

Love, Sophie

About Me

October Favourites 2017- I PASSED MY DRIVING TEST?!

So I feel like life is just one big blur at the minute and I can hardly believe its now November. NOVEMBER. Anyways, as always I can’t not do a monthly favourites. Were also just going to ignore the fact that this post is a day late, (like it was last week, well done Sophie) but this first favourite should explain things…

IMG_4165Sooo I was kind of eager with this one, clearly because I included it in the title of the post. But yesterday, I passed my driving test!! It’s been a long time coming as I had to change instructors and then had to wait months for my test. Anyways, its over, I’m so happy I passed first time and I was so excited to share the news with friends and family who have known how long I’ve wanted this.

IMG_4156I’m going to try and do a short and to the point favourites, so we’ll see how this goes…

Cetaphil Cleanser– for some reason I have oily (ish) skin now and have found this to really help. I like the scent and its not too drying, it does the job.

Carmex Lip Balm– You know its getting colder when you’ve got to whack out the lip balm. Although you should probably be using it all year round. Anyways, I purchased this last month because I wanted something I knew would work and this definitely does.

Jimmy Choo Perfume– I’ve fallen back in love with this perfume. I’m sure its been in one of my favourites before but I’m back to being obsessed with the scent, which is probably a good thing when it comes to a perfume.

L’Oréal Day Cream– I love how moisturising this is. Basically all I have to say, I definitely recommend.

IMG_4155During October I have been loving this book ‘the girl you left behind’ by Jojo Moyes. I’m about 3/4 through it and I love that it features both modern day and WW1 era. Fingers crossed the ending doesn’t disappoint and I’ll be sure to write a much better review in a book post soon.

I never thought ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ would be my cup of tea. However, I’ve found myself watching it every Saturday night and I just don’t know what it is that’s got me so interested in the show this year.

When it comes to music I’ve been enjoying…

  • Lorde – Perfect Places
  • Marshmello ft. Khalid – Silence
  • Taylor Swift – Gorgeous

I am SO excited for Reputation. I’m also really in love with ‘Call it what you want’ by Taylor Swift, really there’s not a song she could release that I wouldn’t love.

About Me

A No Makeup Week (FAIL)

When I first mentioned to my Mum that I was going to go without makeup for a week, her reply was “But you always wear makeup?” And that was the point. I was no longer putting on makeup for enjoyment, I was doing it out of habit. Mainly so people I go to College with didn’t judge what I see as my not-great-skin.

However, I wanted to push myself (and of course do it for the blog) to see whether there were any changes throughout the week to the appearance of my skin.

As you can probably tell from the pictures, I was definitely trying to hide basically all of my face. I definitely started this week with 0 confidence.

Luckily, I was starting this challenge easy, with just having to be in College for one hour. Easy, right? It was proved to be. Surprisingly no one noticed (or if they did they didn’t point it out) that I wasn’t wearing any makeup. So I either way didn’t look that bad bare faced or I look a mess with or without makeup. It’s probably the latter.

Today was my full day at college (9-4) I had to face even more people. However, even within 24 hours, I had gained a slither of confidence to just get on with it. I’m pretty sure wearing my favourite pink coat had something to do with it. Even still, I’d be lying if I didn’t think numerous times in the day ‘Damn, I wish I had some makeup on right now’

Since not wearing makeup, I had to listen to my skin, in doing so I noticed my skin was slightly oily. So to sort this I made a quick Boots order and picked up ‘Cetaphil’ (it was mentioned in a Cosmopolitan article). Immediately my skin felt the benefits.

This was probably my most infuriating day with my skin. I had been drinking a lot more water than I usually would, I’d rearranged my skincare to suit my skin type but still I had spots and blemishes, with even more appearing. I blamed it on the fact that it’ll be ‘that-time-of-the-month’ in a few days and just decided to get through the last remaining day of this challenge.

On the way to College my Mum turned to me and asked “So how has your no makeup week gone?” And after having being able to evaluate the whole situation, I realised its much easier to not care about what others think of you than I thought. And just because my skin didn’t drastically improve within a week, doesn’t mean it never will. Surely wearing no makeup has done more good than harm? And if none of those reasons matter, then I’m just glad I had that extra time in the morning.

I’m planning on not wearing makeup for a little while. Occasionally,  I’ll wear makeup again for College, but only when I want to. Because that’s how it should be.

How I Style #3: A Corset Tunic Dress

It may have been over a year since I put together one of these ‘How I Style’ posts but that’s okay, were just gonna move past that. I’ve also made the small change from How to Style to How I Style, mainly because I think Fashion is totally personal and up for discussion. So this (clearly very short) series of posts are put up for inspiration, than anything else.

Anyways, before I get into it can I just ask why is it whenever I buy something full price it always go on sale when I come to write about it in a blog post? Its just my luck. So basically the Corset Tunic dress that’s featured in this post, is from Topshop. Currently on sale for £15 down from £28. You can get your hands on it here. If you would like to check out other clothes that were on sale at the time of me writing the post you can do here. Andddd miniscule rant over now.

The first thing I’ve been loving to pair with the tunic dress is my all time favourite coat from River Island. I realise its a trench coat and maybe something that seems more appropriate for the cooler spring weather, which it is. But I feel like I can still wear it now, especially with the U.K’s weather. Plus the light pink shade definitely radiates summer vibes.

I was tempted to wear my COFFEE lace up trainers, only because the colour would have coordinated well with the coat. BUT, I soon realised, it just wouldn’t have looked right, and I didn’t want to clash the sophistication of the coat with the casual trainers. HOWEVER, I think if I’d paired this outfit with my Blush ‘Sonia’ Velvet Sandals, that have a small heel to them, then it would have upgraded the outfit from day wear to evening.

IMG_3742For some reason, putting together this outfit really made me feel good. I think because the more I realised what I was wearing, the more I realised how coordinated I was. For example (are you ready for this?) I was wearing this Thin Velvet Ring Choker Necklace (what a mouthful) and the ring matched the other rings that were the detailing on the dress. Both rings being silver, I opted for silver jewellery; an anklet, a bracelet and earrings. PLUS all that silver even matched the silver zip on the leather jacket, ok, that might be too far. And obviously I was wearing the choker, jacket, shoes, all black to match.

I also think this dress would look super cute with a denim jacket. I always read other peoples blog posts and I think someone had got theirs from River Island. But if anyone else has any suggestions. I’d LOVE to know. I even saw a camouflage jacket in H&M, I’m so annoyed I didn’t buy it and I think that’d look pretty cool too. This is probably when I’d wear my trainers if I had a more laid back jacket to wear.

About Me

My Weekend

Just a short post from me this week. I wanted to try out writing a post about my weekend to see if I enjoyed making it and whether there’s actually anyone interested in what I get up to (probably not). But this weekend, I had different things to do on both days, which doesn’t tend to happen too often. So here’s what I got up to…

7:30am- I woke up which is quite early for a weekend, for me anyways.

IMG_2229My bed is an absolute state because Alfie jumps on it so I have this white teddy bear blanket to cover it.

9:30am- Shopping, its been a while since I had shopped so early in the morning. But what helped is this quick little Costa Visit.

12:00pm- I had some Design Work to finish off which included me using my sewing machine.

1:45pm- Workout. When I had been shopping, I’d bought myself some sport clothes for when I do some yoga. Obviously, this gave me motivation to work out later in the day.

3:00pm- I began panicking that Mothers Day was just a week away so I made some quick purchases on Amazon.

4:30pm- I decided to have an early bath because Saturday Night is usually the highlight of my week so I wanted to make sure it lasted as long as possible.

5:30pm- I don’t usually have dinner this early but I ended up having the best fettuccine. I also watched the movie ‘How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days’. It was soo good.

6:30pm- My Mum and I decided to have a mini pamper evening. So we got the foot spa out and painted our nails before watching Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

11:00pm- I took Alfie out to do his business and then went to sleep.

6:20am- I know I’d had an early start on the previous day but there was no way the beginning of my day was starting at 6:20 when Alfie woke me up to go out. So 8:30 is actually the time I got myself out of bed.

11:00am- Garden Centre. I needed some pictures for a photography shoot and obviously it was the perfect place. Walking through all of these flowers was weirdly calming.

12:00pm- EEEEGGHH my Mum took me out in the car to show me the basics. Then I sat in the drivers seat for the first time and it was so SCARY. I realised that I could retain all of the information my Mum gave me about the gears etc. But putting that into practice I was quite bad at. I’m sure I’ll get better over time…hopefully.

1:00pm- Baking. I baked some quiches and a orange and raisin loaf. I usually love baking but I could just tell I shouldn’t have bothered because everything seemed to be going wrong.

2:30pm- I started to do a variety of things. So first off I took some blog pictures, I then cleaned my makeup brushes and then started writing the blog posts for the week. Also, my Mum made beef baguettes which tasted INSANE. Ugh, I’m so glad someone in the house can cook.

4:00pm- Workout. I just repeated similar stuff to what I did yesterday, following some of my favourite Blogilates videos. Finishing off with Yoga With Adriene.

6:00pm- It gets to the point of the evening where I’ll just be reading other peoples blog posts, maybe put a facemask on. But mainly relax with the family, bracing myself for the week ahead. I’ll try to go to sleep around 10:30pm but Sunday nights are always quite hard.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. I’d love any feedback you have on it, about the set up or just the idea of the post itself. See you soon.

About Me

The Start of Spring Baking 2017

I really had no clue what to call this post. But for a Wednesday Evening I fancied sharing what I baked at the weekend; Blueberry Muffins and a Banana Loaf! Heres how they turned out…

Blueberry Muffins

Granted they don’t look the best, but they tasted good. I think my problem was I didn’t put enough mixture into the cases and I didn’t even the mixture out but never mind. Maybe if any of you follow this recipe, you’ll do a better job.

  • 100g Butter
  • 60g Caster Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 100g Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • Pinch Nutmeg
  • 120g Frozen Blueberries

WARNING: You have to leave the mixture overnight, so maybe plan ahead. Anyways, mix together the butter and sugar, add the eggs, and mix until it looks like a good mixture??? I don’t know maybe just take a guess at this stage… well done Sophie, clearly a master chef. Moving on, you then add the flour, baking powder and nutmeg, making sure its all combined (finally thought of a better word). This is where you now leave it over night in a refrigerator.

Next, (once you’ve left it over night of course) you place a spoonful of mixture into each muffin case to about half way. Then you stuff each muffin with as many blueberries as you’d like (but maybe like 6 maximum).

Finally, (yesss its getting closer to eating them) you bake them in the oven that needs to be set at Gas Mark 6/400F/200C for 20 minutes. I’d use that as a guideline but I basically took them out when they’re that golden colour and it looked like I won’t be poisoning myself or anyone else willing to try one.

 Banana Loaf

  • 130g Butter
  • 130g Caster Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 130g Self Raising Flour
  • 2 Bananas
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder

First things first, butter whatever tin you want to use for this banana thing and put some of the baking parchment in, so its easy to lift the banana loaf out, once its out of the oven. I.e so you have less time before you get to eat it. Also, you might want to heat the oven to Gas Mark 4/160C FAN/180C, before you start the mixture.

Next, you need to mix together the butter and sugar, until its light, I’d say and fluffy but I never think that’s the right adjective. Then add the eggs gradually and add a little flour while you’re at it. Then throw in the rest of the flour, (but maybe not literally cause that stuff gets messy) baking powder and bananas (which have to be mashed). Pour it into the tin of your choice and bake for half an hour until a knife comes out clean. Although I don’t know why you’d have a knife in your loaf…

Finally, you’re done, just make sure to let it cool otherwise you’ll burn your tongue. Trust me, I’ve been there, you can’t taste anything for days.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. Sorry for my use of vocabulary during the recipes when it may be more helpful if its a bit more formal, I just thought that it makes it more ‘me’ and maybe a bit more interesting. See you soon.

Love, Sophie

Makeup Products I’d Like to Try

Does anyone else have those products in their makeup drawer, that they never seem to get round to properly testing out? I do, so I thought I’d share them with you. Many of them are sample sizes. But all the more reason for me to try them out, to see if it would be worth buying the full sized products.

Eylure No 070

I’m starting to get much more confident with applying false lashes and these I have yet to try. The only thing that has made me hesitant until now to use them was that I have another more subtle pair of lashes I’ve been using instead.

Benefit Dew The Hoola

I have no idea why I am yet to have tried this. Maybe its because its a liquid bronzer and I’m not used to that.

Benefit Gimme Brow

I remember getting this and being super excited. But once I tried it I’m pretty sure I put too much product on because my eyebrow turned black…oops. However, I’m happy to try again and maybe be a bit more careful with application.

Benefit Operation Pore Proof

Luckily there was more than just two products in this set otherwise I may have been disappointed. But these are the only two I haven’t managed to use regularly. Hopefully, I figure out how I can use them in my usual makeup routine.

Bourjois Colour Band

This is definitely something I thought I’d use more than what I actually have. I love the shade so hopefully I find a makeup look that incorporates this.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post, its something different to what I usually upload. I would love to properly try out all these products and then review them in another post. See you soon.

About Me

September Favourites 2016

Last month, was probably my busiest out of this year. What with College suddenly taking up a big portion of my time, I’ve been left stuck thinking about what I’ve been loving. Obviously, I came up with some things, so here they are…

Benefit Shy Beam

I have been religiously applying this product because I just adore it. At first, I thought that its subtle glow wasn’t too noticeable, (not that makeup should be, but I’d like to think people notice the effort I put in…) but one of my best friends commented on how nice it is. So that immediately made it one of my holy grail makeup products.

Water Bottle

At the start of September, I was on the hunt for a large water bottle for the longer days, I’d start to endure at Sixth Form.  Eventually, I found this from Dunelm, I really like the size and design. And it has had a place in my bag everyday at college.

Art Based Courses

I didn’t exactly have the start to College I thought I would (if you want to know why feel free to read here). However, I am currently taking 2 art based courses; Photography and Design. And I am loving that I get to spend most of my days being so creative. I love presenting up my sketchbooks so far, I know the work load is going to massively increase and so is the difficulty. But it is just the start of the year and that’s what I’ve been loving so much.

In every favourites post I usually mention one or two songs that I have been loving throughout the month. Although, this time around I have a lot that I’ve been listening to. Therefore, I’m going to just make a list:

  • Hailee Steinfeld ‘Starving’
  • Dua Lipa ‘Blow Your Mind’
  • James Arthur ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’
  • Zara Larsson ‘Ain’t My Fault’
  • Calvin Harris ‘My Way’
  • Digital Farm Animals & Cash Cash ‘Millionaire’ ft. Nelly
  • Any of the Chainsmokers Songs

Now I’ve started typing this one up, I’m pretty sure I have mentioned Friends in a blog post. However, I just want to say that I’m super grateful for the friends I made last month when I started College. Also, to my blogging friends, especially the ones that helped me with my Pyschology homework, that was much appreciated.

Phone Case

There is literally nothing special whatsoever, with this case. I have just really needed it because I put an ‘Emergency £5’ there and usually my Student I.D card. Obviously, it has made sure that my Phone has stayed safe since I drop it minimum 10 times a day. It makes sense that I always have my phone on me to keep the small necessities with it too.

Reminders App

This is already installed into apple devices, and before September I’d never used it. Now, I like to write myself a list of stuff I need to do. Usually, I’ll make one on a Friday night, for the weekend, i.e homework, writing a blog post or just anything that needs doing. It just keeps my life semi-organised.

Ted Baker Lip Balm

My lips have been very dry the past couple of weeks and its probably just down to the change in seasons. So this has definitely been a life saver for me. Its also just been a base to any lip product I put on.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post, I’d just like to thank you all for 450 followers because that’s just crazy. Would love it if you could comment what you’ve been loving this month, or just link your favourites post if you’ve done one. See you soon,

Love, Sophie

About Me

Sunderland Air Show 2016

You won’t believe the time I’ve spent trying to sort this post. Nothing seems to be working for me today. I tried making a video but it wouldn’t import on my IPad, tried on my phone and it kept freezing and went to carry on sorting through the photos on my laptop and they weren’t there! okay, rant over…

Anyways, yesterday I had the pleasure to visit the Sunderland Air Show which is the largest free Air Show in Europe. So since the last time I went was 10 years ago and most of my Dad’s side of the family live there it made sense to make an effort and go again.

Also, sorry for the bad quality photos, a lot of zooming was needed…

If you were interested this was my outfit of the day

I had to include these two pictures from walking to and from the show. (IF YOU’RE READING DAD, THANKS FOR DECEIVING ME ABOUT HOW LONG IT TOOK TO GET THERE!)

 image3image4image5image6BLOGBLOG 2BLOG 3blog 6blog 7blog 8blog 11blog 9blog 10I had to end the day with an ice-cream, it tasted AMAZING.

Also, the part I have spent the most time on is this video. Obviously, it was better and more worthwhile to take videos of the planes than pictures. So if you have the time I’d really appreciate it, if you checked it out here.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. It’s definitely a different post to what I usually upload, but I had such a great day the atmosphere and the effort from the pilots was great. I have been enjoying using my twitter so much recently so feel free to follow me on there @Sophi15Samantha (I’ll follow back). And I have so many amazing posts lined up that I’m so excited to share with you, so like, comment and follow. See you soon.

Christmas Boots Haul

So there is literally nothing Christmassy about what I picked. However, you could argue some shades I picked up are a Christmas colour. Anyways, I went shopping recently, so have a look what I bought…

Firstly, I repurchased the No7 Match Made Concealer. This was a really good concealer so I had to buy it again, as I love everything about it. I just used it up too quickly!

xmas boots 2This is the Bourjois Paris So Laque Ultra Shine Nail Polish in the shade Rouge casino. It is darker in real life I think its because of the lighting it looks more of a pink. But I swear its more of a red shade and its definitely perfect for Christmas. I will be trying this out on Friday when I break up from school.

xmas boots 5I am so excited to try this. I don’t think I have even read any reviews on this mascara. So if you have done a review or have tried this mascara comment down below as I would love to know what you thought. This is just a small tester size, so if I don’t like it that much, it’s not that much of a loss. Anyways, hopefully this Bourjois Paris Volume Glamour Max Mascara is good and maybe even replaces my Benefit Roller lash

xmas boots 6Oh no, don’t even ask me why I have gained another lip product. I feel like after purchasing a lipstick that will be mentioned later in this post, all lip products have seemed tempting to me. Anyways, again I apologise for the lighting on the photo as this lip gloss is a red and I love red lip products so I am very excited to try the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in the shade Hot Pepper.

xmas boots 8I have been wanting to try a new foundation FOREVER! I feel like I just got too comfortable with No7. Not that I don’t love the brand, because I really, really do. But I think I just found myself not exploring other brands out there. So, as you may have noticed most of this is Bourjois. Anyways, I am really excited to try a different foundation as I have been using No7 for well over a year now. This is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation.

xmas bootsI love this packaging! I know its quite simple and you’re probably all sat there like “Really Sophie?”. But I don’t know, there’s just something about it that surprised me. Anyways the shades in this Bourjois Quad Smoky Stories Eye shadow Palette are perfect for me.

xmas boots 7

Believe it or not, I have never tried Primer. I never really had it on my wish list. But after finishing my Christmas shopping, I thought, why not. So I do really look forward to seeing how well this Bourjois Paris Happy Light Luminous Serum Primer works.

xmas boots 3In support of Macmillan, Boots are doing a ‘lucky dip’. Basically, you donate a pound and then you get to at random pick something up. So I have done it a couple of times now and here’s what I’ve got the: L’Oreal Nude Magique BB Cream and the Rimmel London lip gloss that I was not able to find. These are both testers but its all towards a worthy charity so I don’t mind.

xmas boots 9So technically this isn’t from Boots. It’s from House of Fraser but you can purchase this from Boots. Anyways, I can’t believe I haven’t blogged about this yet?! It is the Dior Addict Lipstick in the shade ‘Too Much’. It is the most beautiful makeup product I own and I have already tried it and its amazing and can you not already tell how happy this makes me?!

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. I do apologise that there was no post on Saturday night. I was busy with friends all day and night and then I had no wifi. But my internet is good again so I can breathe haha. Anyways, see you in my next post.

Love, Sophie
